Another hotel that is close to the Westin St. Regis (which as the other person said is a very very nice hotel) is the Pan Pacific Hotel, the Hilton, and the Marriot. There is also a very nice Sheraton that is very close to many attractions in the city. All the above named hotels have suites, and are probably a little cheaper than the Westin St. Regis. However, I would really suggest the Regis if you can afford it - it is very very plush, fancy and has some of the best rooms in the SF area. Hope this helps, have fun!

There are no mid-range suite hotels near the St. Regis. Moscone Center is a pretty upscale neighborhood. The W and Four Seasons are right next door, but they're probably just as expensive as the St. Regis.
In terms of deals, the best you can do is probably a standard room at the Marriott or Westin Market Street (formerly the Argent). These are primarily business hotels, so they're eager to keep the occupancy rates high. There are often discounts available for these properties.
If you have the money and want to splurge, the suites at the St. Regis itself are amazing. Try to get one as high up as possible though, as street noise in San Francisco is no joke (as bad as any East Coast city).
