if you know what day you got it, go to your DOS and call up the directory. Then delete every file from the day before until present time.
I have had to do that when the virus protection failed and it works, but its a bit of a pain.
Good luck.

(I'm a 24yo male work as computer technician for a hospital)
please do not follow the "delete all files instruction" I hope you know that system files are there for a reason.
any ways.
You can use a free antivirus such as AVG (this and most software are available from the "software manufacturer" most of the time.
or you can try out some software and if you like buy the full version.
Right now Computer Associates is letting people try their antivirus for 1 year FREE. after that if you decide that you like it you can call and buy it or if not .. just uninstall it. no obligation.
I hope this helps.
if the infected computer does not have internet access let me know and I can tell you how to remove the virus.

Do a search for free anti virus downloads and look for Antivira Antivirus guard. I have used it for years. It updates every time you go on-line. It renews the license about 2 weeks before it expires. It does take time about once a week when it downloads a big file but most are quick. For free, you can;t beat it. You can get a stronger protection version by subscribing.

I myself being a virus expert, building and destroying them would technically have to say you delete them manually. There is a 'Registry Editor' located in your WINDOWS directory folder.
Some viruses hide themselves by disabling RegEdit however all programs installed and used have hexadecimal values which can be edited/deleted. You would have to find the name of the virus file with a 'Free' Scan , locate the file and its registries. If you do not delete its registry files then the virus will just re-appear.

There are couple of free online tools that you could use. One of them is,
Trend Micro's FREE online virus scanner
Trend Micro HouseCall is an application for checking whether your computer has been infected by viruses, spyware, or other malware. HouseCall performs additional security checks to identify and fix vulnerabilities to prevent reinfection.
I have attached a link for you that you can use to clean your system up.

Download or buy anti-virus/anti-spyware software. I wouldn't even turn ON my laptop without it.
