Why isn't there a report abuse category for bad spelling?
I can't be alone in this. Some of you must read the questions and answers on here and wonder whether their authors have ever even set foot in a school. I've seen questions that look as though they're in some sort of code.
This week someone asked about the spelling of a certain word. At least ten people breezed in and confidently gave an incorrect answer. One of them got five stars for doing so. I can't believe anyone would answer that sort of question without at least a basic check that they are right.
If the answers to even such a simple question are wrong, how much hope do you have that the more complex issues are being answered correctly, or responsibly?
I think most of us can tell the difference between someone whose first language isn't English, and someone who is just ignorant. There's an example of the latter about halfway down the answers to this question. The former have an excuse and I won't criticise them for it.
And no, I'm not perfect. I make the occasional mistake. I do my best, though, which is all we can ask of anyone.

It's irritating but it's also, unfortunately, the future. Best get used to it eh? LoL!
[edit] It's a stretch, and it'll probably back-fire, but I suppose we could report such questions for "not being in English" (which is actually one of the community rules)!?!?
[note to Beauty Spot] People who have genuinely *learned* English as a foreign language aren't mangling it as much as the native speakers!

If the spelling is bad enough, one can report it as a violation of community guidelines - it's still up to Yahoo to delete the question or at least send the user a warning that excessive spelling errors will not be tolerated.

If they had an abuse category for those who ignore the prominent "Check Spelling" link right above the answer text box, there would be maybe 20 of us allowed on here.
To answer your second question, I have no hope at all, which is why I come here to kill time and entertain myself and not look for actual intelligent information.

I agree you are not alone in this and I noticed the grammar of other users too. In my opinion, bad spelling is not an "abuse". I believe it is carelessness on the part of the person asking or answering a question. They should make use of "Check Spelling" before they submit their quesion or answer. It may also be due to their lack of education and it also happens to those people whose first language is English. I also agree with "Beauty Spot".

The questions with regard to the character of Republicans are sweeping generalisations and ought to be perceived as insulting however the question with regards to Bush as a plausible contender for the Anti-Christ looks to me to be a splendidly effortless and clever question, particularly in the context of the unusual political/non secular messages, with regard to the area of america of a in the fulfillment of the e book of Revelations, that have been began below the Reagan administration and have persisted with the 'end timers' who're presently especially influencial in the Bush administration. i believe the final Pope additionally asked this question.

I couldn't agree more, I often feel the same way as you do. It's all the more alarming that a spell check utility is included in Y H answers, so why don't people use it?

Bad spelling, poor grammar, excessive use of slang pale in comparison to obscene avatars, race baiting, cursing and swearing and flagrant insults.
If that Check Spelling function worked all the time, it would reduce at least some spelling errors, however...
cents thee Czech ken bee fueled....
it may serve no real purpose at all

Because that would exclude every American since they dont know what real English is. Poor them! So we have to let it go!
More sensibly, typos haunt everyone

I hear ya. The worst is when NO punctuation is used and one must read it 3-4 times to understand what the ask-er is asking.
