Norstrom for Gionta?

Rumor from HockeyBuzz:

"The Devils really are looking for one solid shut down d-man and love Mattias Norstrom. They could be offering up Gionta..."

IMO I think that's a HORRIBLE trade for NJ. The Devils have so little offense as it is they shouldn't even be thinking about trading the player with the franchise record for goals in a single season.

Update:

to swingman258:

HockeyBuzz is actually a lot more reliable than you might think. They nailed the Vishnevski deal before anyone else, and even knew the year length perfectly. NHLLine.ca is crap, but HockeyBuzz actually seems to have some merit.

Yeah i've heard this rumor too. Also that Elias is involved in another one with the Canucks. I dont see lou doing this though. We have so little offense to begin with I dont think hes going to throw away a whole season for future ones. The only way these deal goes down is if we get Brendan Morrison or Markus Naslund which is unlikely. Although I would love a top 10 draft pick, (with the ability to make it even higher) i dont seem Lou doing this.

If gionta and Elias pick it up, along with Parise and Zajac we could actually be an offensive threat and Lou knows this. In Lou we trust, and even if he does make this deal I bet he knows exactly what he's doing and it would make us better in the long run. I hope not though, G-O, Rochester Rocket!

You're totally right. Hockeybuzz.com is far better than nhlline.ca. WHat they did with Souray was absolutely terrible. Hockeybuzz called the Vishnevski deal days before it went down and they were saying all along that what they were hearing wasn't placing SOuray in NJ. Thats why im kinda scared about this one because if they are saying it maybe, just maybe, its true

I think Norstrom is solid, but that move would be absolutely insane on the part of the Devils.

Gionta is NJ's premier finisher and has so much more left in the tank than Norstrom.

If it saves Lou money ti may happen but I would not do that deal. With Gomez gone the Devils are looking at needing to win a lot of 2 - 1 games and I don't think the D has recovered from the loss of Rafalski. So I guess I'm saying I agree with you.

awful for the devils if u trade gionta who exactly will score for your team. the devils have the best defense simply because they have broduer. the devs are now trying to fills holes. they should have reached in there pockets and signed rafalski and kept there guys

i wouldnt trust a rumor, especially from hockeybuzz. tsn.ca has good rumors, followups and stories. if they dont say it, i dont buy it. and yea NJ would be killin themselvs with that trade. they are a primarily defensive minded team who play a dump and trap offense. they wont trade Gionta for a shutdown D-man like nostrom
