Catholics: Why do you think Muslim women are oppressed when they where a burka and hijab?

But when your nuns are forced to dress even MORE confining and conservatively, they are considered some of the holiest people in your religion?

I think you have it wrong.

    1. Nuns are not forced to wear a habit. They choose to. Did you know that in the sixties, possibly early seventies, they were given the choice to wear just the habits or normal clothes? They were, and they decided to stick with the habits.

    2. The habit is like a uniform, it defines who they are to the world. Like a police uniform or nurses outfit. You know who they are at first glance.

    3. A nun doesn't have to wear the habit. I've seen a few nuns in more civilian clothes. The thing is, it's her choice to even become a nun.

Tell me, does a woman in a highly Mulsim oriented land like Iraq or Saudie Arabia have a choice? What happens if she walks out without wearing her burka or hijab? What are the social and emotional reprecussions for her actions?

If they don't mind wearing it I don't think they are oppressed. Nuns are not forced into wearing anything. They are nuns and wear the habit gladly.

No, I don't think that Muslim women are oppressed. They choose to wear the things they wear because it is part of their religion, and that is what they want to do.

Nuns volunteer to dress like that. There's no social taboo against not becoming a nun.

    nuns choose to be nuns..........

muslims are born to it and forced upon them

    they are not nuns

    they do not look free

a nun chooses her lack of freedom with free will

muslim women are oppressed--they just dont know it
