Remote Desktop?
I have a friends computer who has windows xp home on it and is with orange that uses an orange livebox.
I want to remote into my computer at home that has windows xp pro and I am with virgin media behind a linksys router ( I have already port forwarded 3389 on both TCP and UDP ) and I know it works as I can remote into my home machine from work and else where.
I have port forwarded both ports on TCP and UDP on port 3389 for the orange livebox and I can not connect to my home machine, can someone please enlighten me as to why not.
I think its because virgin media must be a different domain and I need to enter the domain ip address or something along those lines, I am now using MSTSC version 6.0 for windows xp
Please help
the orange livebox has the firewall set to medium and so im assuming when you port forward you open up the port to allow the application through the firewall, am i missing something ?
I just dont want to put the firewall off otherwise i might as well put my machine on the DMZ which I have also tried and that did not help either as it still wouldnt let me connect to my home machine remotely
that doesnt explain how come i can remote into my home machine with xp pro from other machines and not from here ???

Is there a firewall somewhere filtering out everything other than Port 80?

Try this:
Right Click My Computer and select "Properties". In this you will find a "Remote" tab, select it. Make sure that the allow remote desktop functionality is enabled, and a valid user is in the user list. Of course, the machine admin will have access automatically without adding them.
Hope this helps.
