Are you glad you were born in this period of earths history?

I think i am, medievel times might have been more exciting and mysterious but life would have been a lot of work and i'd be dead be the age of forty probably. Whereas the future could be messy what with nuclear weapons, global warming, more outrageous terrorism to top 9/11, more government control etc etc......

Update:

redisca i guess i meant for the medieval person life was more sane and not doubt mysterious with the lack of science and myths and legends floating about. I think yes boring as there was less food for thought.

BUt i do agree with live POSSIBLY at the very early ages of human civilisation. Don't forget we could wipe oursleves out this century if God doesn't do it himself.

First of all, medieval times were exciting and mysterious only in romance novels and cinema. In reality, for most people (even the upper class) life was pretty boring and uncomfortable.

As for the future, we simply can't predict it. The human civilization is only about 10 thousand years old (if you count it from the founding of the first cities). That's nothing on the cosmic scale. Can you imagine a civilization that is, say, a million years old? I can't. Although most people believe that we are masters of the Universe with our little gadgets and what not, our civilization is actually very young. VERY young. We live in deep antiquity, my friend. Perhaps even pre-history. And we have no capacity, nor even a sliver of the knowledge necessary to predict the future intelligently. Will we exist in a cycle, oscillating between the Stone Age and the Nuclear Age for ever and ever? Will we move forward, form a planetary society, cure cancer and colonize the Milky Way? I don't know. We simply haven't been around long enough.

For these reasons, your question cannot be answered.

Yes, life today is so much more comfortable and easy than in the past. Even in my own lifetime, b1941, great strides have been made in the improvement of our lives.

If you got a toothache in 1300, there was no pain killer to take away the pain and at best you would have had the tooth ripped from your mouth by someone who did not really know what they were doing, while someone else beat loudly upon a drum to drown your cries.

All this at your local Spring or Summer Fayer, somewhere in Merrie Englande.

No thanks. The 21st century is far better even than the 20th, in spite of the Terrorists.

I love living in this time period.

#1 I dont have to worry about polio or smallpox or any # of diseases that killed many people in previous times.

#2 A hundred years ago, the average live span was about 40. Pretty sure I will surpass that soon, maybe even double it if I watch myself.

#3 HVAC. I could not imagine living w/o it!

#4 cars. I am not a horseman. Tried, but can't do it.

#5 information. A hundred years ago, unless you were of the wealthy (which I am not) then you were lucky to be able to read or write and your knowledge of events outside of your home and maybe town were very limited.

I was born in the early 50s and I've definitely seen a lot of changes since then. I don't think this time is a particularly good time and people are much more hardened than they used to be. I sometimes wish we could go back to the family and moral values of that time. People who say that it was not as good as we make out are generally not old enough to have lived through it.

oh gosh this is something I have thought of a lot over the years.

Every period has its horrors, that is for sure.

There are many times in History that I relish and have had fantasy's of living in them. Renaissance Era, Ancient Sparta, and Pioneer days of Early America

I think I have settled with the one I am in as favorable. I like washing my clothes and dishes INDOORS. Lol

I've fantasized about living in other time periods (mainly mideaval, or the late victorian era, the twenties) but I'm really lazy, and I love movies, etc. so I don't think I'd enjoy myself as much. So yeah, I guess I am.

Yes, this is the most exciting period of mankind of scientific discovery and discovery ever and we can enjoy the adventure from our living room. It is the period when mankind faces extinction and in the challenge is the key whether we will survive.

yeah, this period rocks. I can hop in my car in drive to Out Back Steak or McDonalds; I can walk to soda machine and just drop in a few coins and have a cold drink.

It sure beats running from big animals and being chased by barbarians!
