In regards to Compassionate Reassignment for Army?
I was hoping someone had the regulation or answer to this question. Recently my husband and I received a Compassionate Reassignment Orders from Germany back to the states (due to the death of our son). Currently my husband is in processing at our new duty station but the unit they are placing with him recently deployed. Does the Compassionate Reassignment stop him from joining him?
Thanks and ton of hugs Mel
I meant to write joining them .. sorry about that.

Wow I am sorry , we also did a Compassionate Reassingment from Germany but it was medical reasons .. when we arrived here 3rd ID his unit left the day he signed out for permissive TDY to Iraq 2003.
He was told every week after his 10 days were up he was going on the next flight , he didnt deploy with them at that time.
Now those who were in the unit during 2005 that didnt deploy when the rest of the unit left were sent later to Iraq .
I am not sure if they will make him go or not , honest its up to his Chain of Command.
I would look into it further , but you dont want to do anything that could later harm his career.
I suggest talking to his Chaplin , do you have any family close by?
Though my heart breaks for you ( we have lost 2 babies) , I wish I could give you more info . I dont see any regulation about this, but I do know a little about Compassionate Reassignments.
I hope everything works out for you!

No, compassionate reassignment does not prevent eventual deployments. However, he probably will not have to join them until he has been in the states for at least a year. Compassionate reassignment is really designed to give someone a break for a year to take care of important events in people's lives. If they have already deployed, he will probably not join them, since they might be back in a year.

Compassionate reassignment will not exempt him from future deployment, however, since the unit he is currently signing into has already deployed, it is unlikely he would be sent to catch up. This would be especially true since it it would be an emotional hardship (as well as a practical one) for him to leave you so soon. Please accept my condolences and prayers on the loss of your son.

AR 614-200, paragraph 5-17. The OIC may delay deployment, but he is not excluded from deployment.
Wish I had a yes/no answer for you, but it looks like it will be up to the OIC and the needs of the Army.

Because he's under CR, he won't have to join them right away. He may eventually but hopefully this stupid war will be over by then....good luck to you, kudos to your husband, and I'm sorry about your son.
