Buzzing in Chimney?

For the past few weeks there has been a buzzing in my chimney, then the other night an odd looking beetle flew out buzzing really loudly, I managed to catch it and put outside. Ive sealed up all the gaps in the chimney now, as scared of how many there are - has anyone else had this, the buzzing is still going on, Im wondering how the hell they can survive this long

Update:

They are not bees. Paying someone to sort out would mean spraying the whole lot to death!

Smoke them out. At the bottom of your chimney there is a small door that you would use to clean out the flue. Look for it, it is there.

Get an old cotton rag, ball it up, open the little door, place the rag inside and light it. When it gets burning good, snuff it out and let it smoke. Repeat if necessary.

    That should remove them.

If you want to kill them, buy a bug bomb and set it off using the cleanout door for access.

Finding a beetle up the chimney signifies that something has died up the chimney and the beetles are living on the dead animal, probably carrion beetles of some kind. The beetles will moove out once the carrion is compleatley eaten. My advice would be to call the environmental services as this could cause problems with other carrion eating insects like flesh flies and blue bottles which carry germs and viruses, at least get it checked if there is kids in your home!!

Is there by any chance that there is a fire place attached at the bottom of this chimney?

If so, grab a bag of marshmallows, a good stick, a nice pile of firewood, spark up a nice fire and smoke the little squatters out.

If not, grab the neighbor's kid, give him $20 bucks and a long pole with a toilet brush taped to the end and tell him to make sure you brush real good and I'll put the ladder back up so you can come down.
