Is there anywhere on the net where I can play something similar to the original Gauntlet game?

You can play Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows on the PS2 online, with headset support, though it's pretty mjuch abandoned these days, so unless you organise a time with your friends, (or me, of course), it's unlikely you'll find anyone.

The good thing is it's free online, has better graphics and sound compared to games such as Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, (which is good in it's own right), you can use the same character for offline and online, it doesn't take up much memory card space, and best of all, you can easily buy the game for under £10 these days, a bargain even if you only play it offline with a friend, (up to 4 players offline and online).

Try searching for the Mame emulator. I used to have this and could then download the ROM for the original ROM's to the arcade machines. Including all of the Gauntlet incarnations
