Why do you feel you are entitled to free music, movies and software?

I have seen an awful lot of posts today of people (mostly younger) asking for links or someone to send them music, movies or software for free. Why do you feel you should not have to pay for these services when you know they are cracking down on it?

Macho Duck, I TOTALLY agree with you. Today's culture is all about getting it all for free and anything illegal is "cool".

To download it off someone else, there must be a FIRST PERSON who has to pay for it. Does not this first person feel that everyone else is getting for free something they had to spend money on?

And the argument about being reasonably price is NOT valid. Comparatively - people are getting larger content cheaper than 30 years ago. When I wanted a record, I worked and saved up for it. $20 for a vinyl record. You can get a CD with double the content now for less than $30!

    (Australian dollars)

It is all about "I want it NOW - no matter how" mentality. And it all start with the parents giving in to children's demand and this grows into expectation and bad attitude and values as they grow older.

I won't lie, I do partake in this action quite often. I am a frequent downloader of ROMs ans Emulators (for old video games), and I do take it a little bit far sometimes. However, I make it a point not to download games like Mario, Zelda, and Sonic, because those games deserve to be paid for. They came from truely great game creators that don't deserve to get ripped-off because I don't feel like paying.

I would say that about 95% of the games I own aren't worth more than a dollar on any website, so I don't feel too guilty about what I do. It is more or less to cut out those outrageous shipping costs.

This is not right, that's why you feel guilty. I write this as muslim and from my knowledge of Islam, so can't cite any ref: Overall in Islam, EVERYTHING belongs to Alla(swt) and what ever we have is on loan, and guardianship. ( even the food we have on our hand does not become ours until it is eaten) From what Allah(swt) has given us, some can be considered private property and some as public property. From the public property, there are some things you can use without permission, and other things you need permission to use. 1. In Islam, in a community of muslims, you can leave what is considered your private property, unguarded in a public place and not expect it to be harmed, stolen or used without permission. No one should interfere with it unless it is to protect it and prevent loss to the owner. 2. If some one does use or take such a property, then that property/item becomes ***** for everyone, except the rightful owner, and therefor cannot be used by any other muslim. So I would consider the game/program to be private property and there for ***** unless you had permission to use it. Ps Besides it being *****, such things usually end up taking a lot of your time and lead to further bad actions, depending on the content of the game! and keep you from doing good deeds ( i say that from personal experience)

I completely agree with you. I'm all about iTunes so that I can download only the songs I want, and they're only 99 cents each. Its sad that so many are trying to get something for nothing, but it will come back on a lot of the people who are doing it. On the other hand, when it comes to TV shows, which there are a lot of posts about, many networks let you watch episodes on their websites for free, so there is nothing wrong with it. It is great if your cable is out or something and you miss a show. I missed the season finale of Lost, and was so grateful that I could go to abc.com and see it.
