Why is the picture quality on my samsung plasma poor?
I have a Samsung HP-T5054 50" plasma tv connected to a Comcast, Motorola DCH3416
All-Digital, HDTV, Dual-Tuner DVR, M-Card™ Host Set-top. We have the two connected with a HDMI cord. The picture quality is just really poor (except on certain HD channels). The cable box displays the 720p as being the signal and 16:9 as the tv type. Even if we don't stretch fit the non HD channels - the picture quality is still poor/fuzzy.
Other functions work great (sound, dvd player).
Any help?

i agree with pedro. also non hd pictures will look allot worse than hd picture. and how far back are you sitting from the screen manufacturers reccomend about four times the size of your screen so you have a 50" screen so four times that is 16 feet. so 16 feet from your screen is the ideal. but you can go alittle less. try that or standing farther away from the screen to see if that helps you might just have to move back. also try the preset picture settings the different picture settings like, standard, movie, vivid,. give you differnt picture options for your settup.

One thing stay away from the vivid and dynamic presets and picture modes. They are made to make the picture pop on super bright rooms and take away detail in the picture but It probably is your content. I have the 43inch Samsung plasma and it's 100tines better than my LCD I had so I wouldn't think would be the tv unless it was defective. The bet thing to do without paying a calibrater is Go on YouTube and search, HD nation tv calibrating, and they show you how to get the most out of your tv on your own and inform why calibrating what you can on your own or paying someone is good you can search search online Spears and Munsil, they sell calibration videos and have a list that details what settings to turn on and off and which features you should use an explain in good detail why.
Hope this helps, I would recommend watching the HDNation videos and going on spears and Munsil website you will be surprised what you can do on your own an how much better you can make your tv picture.

Very well could be the cable coming in to your house. I had a similar problem with my Hitachi, so I called my cable company about it. They came out and replaced the cable from the pole to the house, and everything was fine. Check for kinks, cuts, chewed spots (animals, I would hope), etc. All of those can affect your signal strength to your box.

You need a upscaler. They get expensive.
