How do ask a question that has superscript and subscript components?

I'm trying to ask a math problem that involves exponents, but I can't figure out how get them to look like exponents!

Update:

I know the chevron means exponent, but I have seen people on here write their questions and answers with the exponents raised up the way they are supposed to be, without using the chevron. How did they do that?
