Why do you believe in hell? (for those that do believe...)?

I understand that you believe in god because you can "feel" him and see how he has affected the world, but what evidence do you have for hells existence?

Do you believe just because a book says so? If your god is loving, why send people to hell?

Could the idea of a torture-filled hell have been added to the bible as a scare tactic to get people to convert?

As any psychologist will tell you, people are usually very easy to control when they are terrified. In fact, if you scare someone well enough, you could probably make them believe just about anything.

Only people who are brainwashed and delusional think that people who don't agree with them go to such a place, or that such a place even exists. Such a place is for people who believe in it.

BTW, isn't it sad to think that they are actually teaching that stuff to children under the age of ten?

I believe in hell because I believe in heaven...but I don't claim to have a clue what either are like. All I know is that God gives us the choice of spending eternity with him or not with him...with him is "heaven", without him is "hell".

I kind of take a slightly perveted Newtonian perspective on this one *smile*. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Forces always come in pairs - equal and opposite action-reaction force pairs. This is a law of nature and if God created this law, as I believe he did, then it makes sense that it would carry in to the supernatural world as well.

Thus, if the forces of good exist, then the forces of evil must also exist...nothingness or non-existence can't be a force, it is nothing.

Furthermore, Newton 3rd law state that the direction of the force on the first object is opposite to the direction of the force on the second object. Thus, if the force of good derives from God in heaven, the force of evil must originate from the opposite direction, from hell if you will.

I don't think the idea of a torture-filled hell was "added to the bible" as a scare tactic...it is simply stating a fact...if heaven exists then hell must also exist. If people have chosen to seize on the concept and use it to frighten and manipulate other people, one can hardly blame God just as you can't blame Ford when a drunken idiot decides to climb behind the wheel of his F-150 and kill a family!

I don't choose to follow Christ because I fear hell, I do it because I choose heaven...there is a huge difference in perspective here *smile*!

I do not believe in hell because i do not believe in 'god', and do not understand what 'god' did to be 'god', but that dose not mean i am agents people who believe in 'god'. The whole religion and 'god' thing is not in the way I think things should be and what I believe in, I don't need a book or a person to tell me what is right and wrong, I can make out my own values in life with out the help of church, 'god', heaven, or hell.

I do believe in hell. One really needs to if one also believes in heaven. In the universe is an eternal Justice which must be accounted for. God, in love, sent Christ to atone for the sins of all, yet many reject it, and judge themselves, as Paul puts it, "unworthy". (I think he was being facetious). Now, who ever came up with the idea that God sent them there? That is not a teaching of the ancient church but a modern invention, I'm afraid. You seem to think that a spiteful, cackling, old gray-bearded grumpy God tossed all these poor folk down there, locked the door, and threw away the key. Wrong. Hell is locked from the inside, not the out. Think about it.

Question: "Is hell real? Is hell eternal?"

Answer: Is hell real? Studies show that over 90% of people in the world believe in a "heaven" while less than 50% believe in an eternal hell. According to the Bible, hell is most definitely real! The punishment of the wicked in hell is as never-ending as the bliss of the righteous in Heaven. The punishment of the wicked dead in hell is described throughout Scripture as "everlasting fire" (Matthew 25:41), "unquenchable fire" (Matthew 3:12), "shame and everlasting contempt" (Daniel 12:2), a place where "their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:44-49), a place of "torments" and "flame" (Luke 16:23,24), "everlasting destruction" (2 Thessalonians 1:9), a place of torment with "fire and brimstone" where "the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever" (Revelation 14:10,11), and a "lake of fire and brimstone" where the wicked are "tormented day and night forever and ever" (Revelation 20:10). Jesus Himself indicates that the punishment in hell itself is everlasting - not merely the smoke and flames (Matthew 25:46).

The wicked are forever subject to the fury and the wrath of God in hell. They consciously suffer shame and contempt and the assaults of an accusing conscience -- along with the fiery wrath of an offended deity -- for all of eternity. Even those in hell will acknowledge the perfect justice of God (Psalms 76:10). Those who are in the very real hell will know that their punishment is just and that they alone are to blame (Deuteronomy 32:3-5). Yes, hell is real. Yes, hell is a place of torment and punishment that lasts forever and ever, with no end! Praise God that through Jesus, we can escape this eternal fate (John 3:16,18,36).

With love through our Savior, Lord Jesus Christ!!

You obviously don't understand history. The Biblical times were filled with a lot of oppression. Hell was created (as was heaven) to make good people feel there would be justice in the end. It's to increase faith not scare people.

Let me correct you on one thing... God doesnt send anyone to hell! Our own choices send us there. hell was created for satan and his followers(demons). JesusChrist came to give us hope and eternal life. He also gave us free will, we have the choice to follow our sinful ways or live as God has commanded. If you understand why we believe in God,then you should also understand that THAT BOOK is written by men who were INSPIRED by God.(read 1 Corinthians for proof of this.) God is loving, why else would He send His only begotten son to die for our sins and give us a way out of our condemned lives.I hope thes edifies your spirit and you realize how much God has done for us,its up to us where we go.

    God Bless

Yep. Because I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. It makes sense that we have consequences to our actions. I wouldn't take the chance. Eternity is too long to be wrong.

    HELL IS REAL.

I know because not only do I believe in the holy words written in the Bibile...

    Also from people's experiences.

I even saw an abc special last night that talked of near death experiences in which a few people nearly died and went to hell....

I can tell you that they most certainly believed and took it as another chance to turn their lives around.

God created a Hell so people will have the right to chose their destiny.

I will take no chance, thank you!

My sould is covered with the blood of the lamb.

    GOD BLESS!

  • HELL IS REAL

have you ever heard about when some people die, they die smiling and talking about "the light" and seeing Jesus? and then some people die screaming their lungs out?! WOW. that is a scary thought! God loves everyone, and he doesnt want anyone to go to Hell. he gives us a choice. he gives us the choice of either believing in him and accepting him as your Personal Saviour, or not accepting him and (unfortunatly) going to Hell. we all deserve to go to Hell, but Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us!! only by his blood are you saved!
