Hhhmmmmm.....Yahoo Answers or Search Engine??

Please explain to me why people ask their questions here before going to a search engine; such as Google or something. Come on people. You'll get better answers faster if u go straight to google or whatever!

I have often wondered this myself...

I always go straight to wikipedia to answer most of them.

You people need a freakin favorites link to wikipedia!

You are completely correct... for some Answers.

I would say the Majority of the Questions here can be answered if people either used Yahoo/Google search engines or Wikipedia (especially wikipedia).

However, the main problem with the search engines would be all the bogus and unhelpful sites you will find in your search. using Yahoo Answers can give someone a direct link or specific answer instead a shifting through a few dozen crappy websites brought up by a search engine.

Wikipedia is great and i am a strong supporter of it. However, not all questions can be answered there and there is limited information. Of course that may change over time for certain things, cause more and more info is added constantly to wiki. On ther hand you could possibly find tons more than you ever thought of on wikipedia which is why its so good. 77% of the time always find what i am looking for on wikipedia. Side Note*- those who claim wikipedia isn't a credible source of information because its a collaborative site are foolish and not thinking into it enough, cause (Wiki)pedia is simply an Encyclopedia that is online. An encyclopedia is created the exact same way as Wikipedia, a collaboration of people's knowledge.

Anyays sorry to go off topic.

Yahoo answers also ahs a personal touch to it, you will give various opinions about your inquiry along with answers. Plus the biggest benefit on asking a question is you are getting numerous responses and most of those people are using the the search engines for you to find the answer (they are just better at it). So you literally, sometimes, get more people searching the answer for you instead of just one person (thats you) searching by yourself.

I do see you're point and its completely valid, i was thinking the same thing with some of the peoples questions. the questions that really get to me are the medical ones, this is not the best place to get medical advice. there are sites for that and the best thing to do is always ask a doctor (or other health professional).

well that's about it i think....

    hope this helped, good luck

Well, for some questions that we (as fellow humans) ask, can not be answered by a search engine. If you were searching for a cookie recipe, then it would be better to search on a search engine rather than here and lose 5 points. But, say it's help for life issues, they may not always be answered on the internet on Search engines. And, that IS the reason that they created Yahoo! Answers. So, that we (as fellow humans, one again) may help other fellow humans. But, others are just plain stupid, if you ask me. Well, I hope that you got your answers from the funny words I used there. ;P

Don't tell anyone that! I make a living looking stuff up on Google or Yahoo for people that can't figure that out.

OK, I lied. I get about 9% return on Best Answers. I haven't figured out how to get anyone to pay me yet.

Johnathon Swift invented the word "Yahoo" to describe a race of boorish, annoying people. That coincidence amuses me every time I come across any of several categories of questions on this site.

Good question....In my opinion, a lot of the questions asked are basically common sense. I also realize that your personality, your experiences, your age and often times the challenges you have experienced in life are the common ground for responding to other people's questions.

There are occasions when I might think of a website or go to it in order to provide more information, or clarify something that I might have said.

I guess the one good thing about having computers and world wide internet is that no one has to be ignorant of anything anymore. There is a plethora of information available to anyone who wants to learn.

come on... people come on Y!A to ask what they should eat for LUNCH... if they can't make a decision that simple by themselves, what makes you think they could do something as complicated as looking in the most obvious place for an answer?
