No. Imitation crabmeat is usually made up of white fish compressed together and seasoned to taste like crab meat. So, it's still meat, therefore not vegetarian. Unless of course, you are one of those "vegetarians" that still eats fish products, in which case, it would be and then you might as well eat real crab.

I don't know about the websites, but I am an experienced cook. The imitation crab meat does not do very well in dishes that are cooked. My buds at the chinese buffet make a great dish that uses boiled shrimp, fake crab and cheese. But it is not heated above the temp of the steam table. Most commonly you will find the imitation crab in seafood salad where everything is mixed together cold. Dice celery, onion and imitation crab. Stir together with mayo, garlic salt & pepper and you will have a great side dish to plop on a few leafs of lettuce. Sprinkle with some paprika for presentation.

Not usually. Like imitation crab and lobster are made from white fish. With other flavoring added.

Not usually. As others have said, it usually is made from fish.

I did have vegan imitation seafood at a vegan Chinese restaurant once. I'm not sure what was in it but I think soy and seaweed were there. The texture was softer than seitan but firmer than firm tofu. The seaweed of course made it 'fishy' and I did not like it.

Nope."Imitation" is a cheaper way to imitate something and never/rarely means "vegetarian". The seafood industry couldn't care less aobut vegetarian lifestyles.

Most have some real meat in them look at the ingredients. Find one that says no real meat an you may be in business, coarse eating all those preservatives made from animals might not be good but ah well.

Imitation crab/lobster is made from pollock, flavouring, and colour. Pollock is fish....

It does have fish in it.

You could look at a healthy store for some Tuno (fake tuna.)
