Did you use Dreft or your regular laundry detergent.?

I want to buy Dreft for the baby but my fiance thinks its not necessary that we can just use regular laundry detergent or get the unscented laundry detergent. What did you do and what do you think?

    Your fiance is correct!

I used detergent that was free from perfumes and dyes.....like "all Free and Clear".

Don't use regular detergent. The dyes and perfumes can irritate a baby's skin. Another thing to avoid is fabric softener.

But don't waste your money on Dreft. It doesn't clean as well and it's more expensive.

I think Dreft is a "Nice-to-have" that probably technically is not required for the baby, but I do think it's a good idea to buy a very gentle detergant for the first few months, because any doctor will tell you that babies have sensitive skin, so if you don't get Dreft, then I would definitely get something that is as free of chemicals as possible.

I didn't buy Dreft and my pediatrician said it wasn't necessary unless your baby is sensitive to regular detergent. I did end up buying it later because my daughter seemed to be itchy. But I would try the unscented/dye free stuff first and see if your baby has a reaction to it. Dreft is soooo expensive!

  • I use whatever I can afford at the time. I like the way Dreft smells. I also use All Free and Clear and have used other brands that say Free and Clear. Don't go for the unscented go for the Free and Clear. Put it this way the only reason you are supposed to use "baby" soap or Free and Clear is because of allergic reactions. If the baby isn't allergic to your clothes (when it's next to the baby) then you don't have to use it just be on the safe side and start the baby on Free and Clear soaps. Good luck!

I used regular detergent. Just think did they have dreft 40 years ago, no they used regular laundry detergent and they all survived.

I used dreft for both of my babies but only until I finshed the bottle then I switched to regular detergent, by then my kids were about 6 months.

I never used a special detergent for any of my kids clothes. I have three kids, and they are all fine. I guess if any of them would have had an allergic reaction to our detergent I would have tried Dreft.

yes of course you use dreft because the main ingredient is still sensitive enough for newborn skin and usually they dont have allergic outbreaks

your regular detergent would make that newborn break out in a rash

after eight months then your baby has stronger immune to everyday items like regular food and juice and detergent

    but always use baby soap

I used my regular detergent and my regular softener - and my baby was totally fine.

I tried DREFT once - because my mother insisted - but it didnt take the formula stains out at all.

I used Dreft. I bought a big thing from Costco, and am still using it. My son is now 10-mths, and I used it for all the new clothes he got, too. So it's not really much of an extra expense.
