Underground copper cabling is not a good idea. One lightning strike nearby and *boom*, bye bye computer. I've seen it happen. Use copper inside buildings and fiber to connect buildings (or wireless)

Straight CAT5e cable? I don't think it's a good idea to bury it as is since when it rains it can get wet and if any water penetrates the thin layer of plastic coating around the copper wires it could be very bad. A pipe is probably a good idea. Something that won't let water or rats inside would be ideal.

not for underground , they do sell underground/outdoor cat 5 you could use pvc(metal too much interfearance ) but make sure it ahs water tight sealant on connections and feed in/out might a pretty $$ endeavor may come out just as cheap to get outdoor cat 5
