Is it just me or is Dontrelle the most overrated pitcher in baseball??

He had one good year in 2005 and has been an average pitcher if not worse every other season. Every year they act like he is a franchise savior, but I see another Zito...Don't beleive me look at his career stats outside of '05. They look pretty average to me, and this season downright bad. He's far from the worst pitcher in the game, but I wouldn't call him an ace either.

Update:

How does having a crappy team make your ERA be 4.8?? It makes his win total lower for sure, but doesn't raise his era or make him have a Whip of 1.6... In all the trade talk you hear how he's going to make such a difference to a contending club and I just don't see it. Again he isn't horrible, but he's not the difference maker he could be at this point in his career. I think he's a great person and fun to watch, but I wouldn't want him on my team right now.

He had a deceptive delivery when he 1st started. Guys had alot of trouble picking him up. He has failed to make the adjustments to this point. If he does I believe he will be a player of value. He doesnt have Zambrano-Verlander like stuff tho.

Basically I think his PR is good cause hes just a cool happy-go-lucky cat.

Dontrelle Willis is not at all overrated. This kid has so much talent. You can't even imagine. He's only 24, and he already has a 20 win season under his belt! You can't possibly convince any intelligent person that he is overrated. Notice he made his debut in '03? When the Marlins were good? They were also pretty good if not decent in the following years. But this year, the one year out of the new millenium where the Marlins are actually BAD, he does terrible. See what i'm getting at? This kid DOES have Zambrano-Verlander type stuff (I should know, i'm a Cubs fan), and he's going to win a few Cy Youngs in his career, which, by the way, still has maybe 15 years to go. So sit back and enjoy the ride.

I agree with u he is very overated and on everything else u said but the fact is that chris carpenter is the most overated pitcher in baseball for gods sake people actually draft him in the 1st round in drafts ! so overated he only had 1 good season where he won the cy young and thats what made him overated last year in the playoffs he got rocked by the mets and this year is hurt pfff. Yes willis had 1 good year thats it he had that good year because no one has ever seen him or faces him but now that every1 has seen him and face him they know what to expect from him.

Dontrelle is not overrated at all. The most overrated pitcher in baseball is Daisuke Matsuzaka, by a long shot.

Are u kidding me. Last year he had GREAT numbers despite his record . He is having a BAD year. I dont think he is overrated because he is not talked about AT ALL. His popularity has gone down since last year. He is not overrated because people no longer consider him a great pitcher. By the way he got ROCKED today.

I was in Dolphins Stadium when Dontrel made his debut start, and I was like WHOAH who is this kid? When he is on, boy he is ON. Thing is he is a product of being on a bad team.
