Does anyone have a problem with what Jay Leno said? Sorry, this is kind of long but worth the read.?
"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came
across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe.
It must be true given the source, right?
The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy With
the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country Is unhappy
with the performance of the president.
In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.
So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are So unhappy about?''
Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?
Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?
Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?
Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state?
Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?
I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough.
Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.
You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a Fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and
your belongings.
Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a Burglar or prowler intrudes , an officer equipped with a gun and a Bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against Attack or loss.
This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents.
Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.
How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?
Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.
Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the World has ever seen.
No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens.
They see us for what we are.
The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.
I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out?
The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating?
Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11?
The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession?
Could this be the same guy who has been Called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the
Spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?
The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?
Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show?
Did this news affect you so much, make you so Unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the Good things and be glad?
Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.
Make no mistake about it.
The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom.
There is currently no draft in this country.
They didn't have to go.
They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' Discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case Scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.
So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?
Say what you want but I blame it on the media.
If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news.
Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts.
How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?
The media knows this and media outlets are For-profit corporations.
They offer what sells , and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another.
Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!
Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media.
Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage.
Then start being grateful for all we have as a country.
There is exponentially more good than bad.
We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative."
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"
Jay Leno
biguglytruth....thats the difference between libs and conservatives...you always see the glass half empty...we see it half full....
jehen...if that is true thats great...but the question still stands....do you have a problem with what was said?
Don't get bogged down on the author...I could care less who wrote it...I just want to know who has a problem with the statements??

you were right about the long read and being worth it. i don't care who said but it should make people think and realize that we are so blessed here.
yes it is a citizens right to criticize but it should be real criticism based on what has happened to them and their lives. has this leadership done anything to you personally or are you just parroting the talking head's points that you admire.
being a student of history, we have faced many dark days but these days, so many fail to realize or acknowledge that we are at war and war is a nasty business. Lincoln faced many of these same criticisms and more during his term in office. it takes time for history to evaluate a presidency and how effect it was. i won't be here then ,but i think time will state the Bush was the man of the time.
you made me think and that is good. the hate mongers won't change their opinions and there is nothing to be done about that. many of the post show this. they rather point out errors than comment on the message itself.

You may have the best parents in the world, that bought you everything you ever needed since you were a child. Loved you, offered you comfort, security, a future. You have the perfect life. And then you realize that your parents cheated on each other ... or your dad's money comes from scams or lies or mob affiliated. Now how would you feel? if you are a selfish egocentric ignorant looser you won't give a crap ... if you are a hard working intelligent person you would be devastated for you had invested all your hopes and love in those two. The American people ARE that child who has been robbed, lied to, manipulated behind false truth and make belief. THAT is what the 2/3 are fed up with. You can bring as much happiness and sunshine in ones life, if it is fake or from a rotten source, it is worthless. On that instance, Jay Leno can talk ... he has a secured job that pays him millions, he is set for at least 2 or 3 generations after him, he CAN afford health insurance, a safe brand new car, a home paid off the day he signs the contract, He doesn't have credit card debts, or medical bills up to the ceiling and if he gets fired he gets hired in the very next hour. I love when words of comfort come from someone who simply has it all.

But considering that most of the media in America is either partially owned and/or controlled by the government and the big thugs in DC that bought their friendships and influence are the ones limiting what should be broadcast to us, there really is no wonder 2/3 of America is unhappy with their current situation.
It's not that we're unappreciative. It's that what we're fed is exactly what fuels what we don't want - war.
And then war DOES happen, and we name it something else, like the "fight against terrorism" so "if you're not with us, you're with them." And then people are forced to believe in these synonymous phrases because it gives them a sense of security in knowing we are on the "right" side of good and evil and that the government is fully behind protecting us. Except again it goes back to the media.
Think about it, and reflect on the question, "What is TRUTH?" The fact that Jay Leno assumed that what is printed in Newsweek is the truth is his first error. Media nowadays should be questioned. Polls and surveys are always accurate... but are they always CORRECT? As in what are the variables measured? are they comprehensive or suitable? and how are they measured? People almost always forget about these important factors.

Just because you read it in a paper or heard it on tv doesn't mean it is true. While I agree the country may be unhappy with the direction lead by our President. As a daughter of a serviceman I believe you stand behind your country and your President. I do not believe we are that unhappy overall. By the way , ever ask yourself, Who are these people? I know nobody came and asked me, I am very happy. I feel things can always be worst. The media is very biased that is why I don' pay attenton to it anymore. I'd still rather live here than anywhere else on Earth.

Wow! You have almost written an essay dude!
We live in a democracy. Its our right to question how effective we see our government. Sure we are lucky that we dont have the problems of many "Third World" nations have such as poverty and lack of sanitation, and good clean drinking water.
But lets face it - we all want a better tommorrow - a 'Perfect World'.
I understand your support for the President - and thats fantastic. But would you be saying the same thing if it was a democrat president?
Also - Jay Leno is a commedian. He is not meant to be taken seriously. He is just putting out his own views and using community feeling that the President is not doing a good job.
Your patriotism is fantastic. But dont worry - in 2 more years it will be your turn to ***** about how bad the President is.

That was really good and I was blessed to have read it, however I find it hard to believe that Jay Leno wrote it.
Jay Leno along with David Letterman, I had to stop watching because of the constant negativity and attacks upon President Bush. I just can't imagine that he actually said something positive.
Go figure.

I agree that things are far better in this country than others. Jay Leno was just making a joke like he always does. But I like the fact that he and his joke writers are also careful to make fun of democrats and libs too.

This entire speech has been debunked
snopes.com revealed that someone else wrote this and it was coincidence that the same week Jay Leno made a similar speech. Same thought just shorter and funnier.
It is a very insightful piece though too bad most people discount it as crazy conservative banter

Some of it rings true, but it's so easy for a rich talk show host to say, "tisk, tisk" to the American public. He makes money off of Mass Media, so he doesn't have anything to really be unhappy with.
I do agree that Americans are pretty spoiled and ungrateful.
- SlimsmomLv 61 decade ago
Before attributing something to someone, it is best to add citations. Jay Leno didn't write this, and I would be interested to know how you came to the conclusion that he did. I would be willing to bet he would, too.
Be that as it may, this article suggests we should never question our leaders or their motives because we have what everyone on Earth should have? Specious reasoning, at best.
No one loves this country more than I. I have very high expectations of it and its leaders and the example we show the world. I wish that were the case for all Americans.
