Has anyone ever heard this about motorcycle helmets?
Someone told me that if you have a wreck and you survive the accident, the helmet manufacturer may buy back your helmet for testing purposes, not for full price, I'm sure.
My friend's helmet is in my garage. NO ONE will re-use it. He is fine after his injuries healed, and the motorcycle was repaired and sold to some one else...who wrecked it, and he's also fine, after his injuries healed.

"SHOEI" A very expensive helmet(and worth every penny). I snapped the face guard off the front of my MX helmet from a crash at a championship motocross race(me and some other riders were doing the FMX demo half time show) My bike choked up on me when i hit the ramp and caused me to come up short needless to say i went face and body first into the dirt landing, I got real lucky(Minor Concussion and Multiple Bruises and sprain my left pinky finger). The point of the story is....I just bought my Shoei helmet just about three hours before the demo from the SHOEI booth that was set up at the races(All the big executive sales reps for the Shoei company were all there and the seen the crash). They came over to the first aid booth they were requesting to see me and to inspect the helmet. I had to sign a bunch of paper work and they took my helmet and told me they will get back with me soon. Well, about hour later another doctor came and checked me out and they wanted me to go to my doctor or the emergency room and get checked out. then after it was all done i filled out some more paper work and two days later they sent me three brand new helmets(est. $480.00 each).....Everyone tells me it was a bribe to keep me from suing them. That's B.S., come on people! It's motocross stuff is going to get broken..... if it's Bones or Bike it does not matter we all know we are going to get hurt....sometimes there's perks.

most modern helmets have cut outs in the lining where you can fit ear pieces/ speaker thingies which you then wire up to a fly lead which then connects to your music source. BMW helmets come like this and can be wired to what ever you intend to use as a music source. The other way of achieving this is to fit a sat nav with music memory / storage and when you then plug your helmet lead in to the bike wiring sat nav harness hey presto. Ask your local bike dealer wots on offer.

Sounds like urban legend. I can't see the logic except to possibly see what happened to the helmet during an actual crash instead of a controlled testing environment.

I think Bell helmets used to do some buy-backs, esp. if the helmet was destroyed and the rider wasn't. I remember seeing some of their ads showing some badly crunched hemets and actually giving the name of the rider and the details of the accident...pretty good sales technique, seems to me. K ;o)

from what i know it depends on the company you buy the helmet from. you should contact the company for more information. all helmet manufacturers recommend that you always replace your helmet after an accident even if it appears fine...

I'm sure some companies will do this. But, overall just make sure you get a new helmet after every crash because they are only made for one impact.

yes i have heard about this the company buys it back from you to test what made you survive and market all their helmets the same way

Sounds like an urban legend to me. Motorcycle DOT testing consists of dropping a heavy weight on it and seeing if it breaks. Snell goes a little beyond that (possibly a heavier weight?).

He should contact the company with a well written account. Even if they don't do serious research, they make go for the marketing value of it.

I've never heard of that but it doesn't sound like a bad idea if the scene has been photographed and documented by the police.
