Where do they burn trash in Maine?

I'm in NH and my trash guy says he takes the trash to Maine and burns it. It supposedly goes through 5 filters and is doesn't hurt the environment. Sounds a bit strange to me. Anybody know if there is such a place?

    There are a few places that burn trash. Here in Penobscot County, the Penobscot Energy Recovery Co. -- known as PERC -- incinerates garbage and sells the resulting energy to power companies.
