2.a=/1 the dash is though the =sign it means not equal to but need definition of y

Sounds like review for a test. The a=1 business refers to the coefficient of x^2 in the quadratic equation in standard form, that is
y= ax^2 + bx + c
There are different factoring techniques. If a=1 it's a bit easier.
Looks like the b and c referred to in #3 and #4 are from the same formula.
Product of sum and difference refers to the factoring formula also known as "the difference of two squares", it is
(x + c) (x - c) = x^2 - c^2.
Perfect square formulas are usually memorized to assist in factoring.
