I am new at this and wonder how it works I am one of the baby boomers who this doesn't come natural too.

yes, welcome !!
Points to me so far is just a point.
But someone did receive presents from the YA.
I wonder when is my turn.
since U are new, i tell U some on YA.
1. see the scoring systems _click ur avatar-click points, U will see it -to know how is the points is counted.
2. and courtesy, pls pick a best answer from the answers U received, that person got extra 10 points, you got 3 points back (out of the 5 points deducted when you post a questoin)
3. try not to accidentally step on a bomb (violated guidelines) Read the guidelines carefully. YOu might lose your points, and the worst is your accounts might be suspended.
4. try visit few category and stick to 1 category that you find that you can learn and at the same times share yours knowledge.
5. Read the YA products category -answer category - you can get to know YA better.

Or you might help others by answering their burning questions. Either way, you have the chance to share ideas and information with millions of Yahoo! users about politics, sports, health, or whatever else interests you. By asking and answering questions you can accumulate points and build a reputation as a valuable and knowledgeable community participant.
The points are only for "bragging rights" you cant use them to buy anything or redeem them for anything.
