The ego of a human being is the most dangerous thing that exists in the ephemeral world. Uncontrolled and left to fend on its own... one witnesses the play of ego that reduces man to the level of a beast! The same ego when controlled and propelled towards a desired goal makes Bill Gates out of an ordinary mortal! Bill Gates never subdued his ego... rather he fuelled it towards more creative channels!

It is our ego that makes one desire for more and more... Our five senses supporting the same! It is our ego that makes human beings wanting everything! We want to become the richest of all, others desire becoming wealthiest of all... still there are some who desire becoming the most handsome amongst the lot. The craving for wanton desires and greed for materialistic riches makes a human beings desire for more and more!

In the present times... the Kali Yuga phase of life (the dark age... the metal age)... even those who do not desire materialistic riches fall prey! I may be contented with my small car... what if my neighbor brings a bigger one and my wife, a habitual taunter put a question mark on my capabilities! It is quite likely that I indulge in purchasing a new one... only to satisfy the greed of my wife!

My wife may have a sober temperament. What if my children ask for material necessities... things we cannot afford yet, most of the classmates have them. I may be tempted to go beyond limits and engage in extravaganza that was not the least necessary from my point of view! There is a distinct possibility that children were right! Healthy competition in the present times is a sign of development... what of the unhealthy practices in vogue! More on Ego Aham - http://www.godrealized.com/aham_ego.html

Just for the sake of having it as our own or maybe to satisfy our desires. This is the nature of man --- to have something new whatever the value is. The urge to fulfill oneself. Sometimes our personal instincts allow us to do so regardless what the consequence will it be. Human satisfaction is also driven among us.

Sometimes to test both ourselves and others. My wife watches the home shopping networks when they talk about jewelry. She doesn't need anymore and tells me so. But it is something that she loves and she enjoys looking and drooling. And sometimes to give me hints to buy her more.

Because we don't understand the real, underlying need. e.g. People do not want to be happy, but they want to be more happy than others. If they just wanted to be happy, that would have been easy.

I only want on thing and I need it to.

    Greed and selfishness.

Don't worry though, I feel it too!
