Because organic food and non-fatty food is expensive. And by the way, I know a lot of fat rich people.

You better change your eating habits before you hit 40 if not much sooner. The older you get the harder it is to keep the weight off.
Low income families probably buy cheaper foods that are high in fat and sugar. For instance mac and cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers, TV dinners, peanut butter and things like Hamburger stove top dinners. Also the cheapest hamburger meat is higher in fat content. Low income families try to buy foods that will ''go a long way'' and cost the least. These things do not include fruits, juices and veggies.

There is no way that you can call it just a poor and minority problem. It starts in kids in the U.S. Look around at all these chunky kids waddling up and down the street. They just sit at the computer or the television most of the time playing games. No exercise and no ambition. It stays with them into adult life eating junk food sitting around. Ever go past a Dairy Queen or other ice cream shop and notice what kind of people make up the majority of the line? They are over weight people from all walks of life.

I think it's because most of the food they can afford to buy is high in carbs and fat. I'm sure they can't afford fresh fruit and veggies. I imagine lean cuts of meat are out as well.

The trick in your question lies in the assumption of the definition of ';poor.' In the eyes of approximately 95% of the world's population, the 'poor' in the USA are fabulously wealthy. Let's suppose that YOU are relatively middle-class (middle-income). You probably look upon Bill Gates and Donald Trump as being "fabulously wealthy." (I agree.) Well then... THAT'S how YOU look to most of the rest of the world! It's all relative. Therefore, the 'poor' in the USA can afford to choose their diets, whether healthy or junk-food, can afford to wear $150 basketball shoes, etc. etc. Further, please remember that the USA has the highest rate of population obesity in the world, which includes those with plenty of money.
