How can rape ever be funny?

I think it is a serious and confronting issue that wrecks lives but sometimes it is portrayed in the media as something comical to be laughed at, especially when it is the rape of men. An example is that movie, 'the wedding crashers'. Vince's charater wakes up and is handcuffed with the chick having sex with him, he then tries to escape. If it were a woman, would this have been handled in the same way? I think not. This is not the only movie where I have seen a rape of a male glossed over as if it is nothing (you can also see 40 days, 40 nights. again handcuffs, asleep, he doesn't want it). Is this because people think men can't be raped or because people are just more sensitive when it happens to women? Please enlighten me.

Just like women pedophiles..the perception is that men and boys dream of things like that happening to them. They would be ridiculed for not exploiting the situation.

But you're right there is a double standard when it comes to sexual taboo when it comes to men and women.

Oh yeah, there's definitely a HUGE double standard when it comes to sex abuse of men. One of the answers before me hit it right on the head, there's a perception out there that sex with a woman is ALWAYS a positive experience for a man, that men are constitutionally incapable of not loving every minute of it.

There's also a widespread misconception out there that a man can't get an erection if he doesn't want it (hello, it's a REFLEX), which doesn't help.

Edit: I'm starring this question because I see this stupid attitude all the time and it makes me so sick.

omgsh you are offending all rape victims and other people. that is messed up and sick. a joke is supposed to be funny, so when you joke about it your saying that rape is funny. and rape is horrible. it is not only physical violation but it affects you even more mentally and emotionally. its very traumatizing. no one could understand how it feels unless they have been through the experience themselves. so it might be hard for you to believe, but its not funny AT ALL.

My answer is in response to the question and the first answer by the ever-so-classy "heck-yes":

First response goes to the highly educated "heck-yes":

"Approximately 62% of rape victims know their assailant.

Approximately 43% of victims are raped by a friend or acquaintance; 34% by a stranger; 17% by an intimate; and 2% by another relative.

And he’s not hiding in the bushes…

About four out of ten sexual assaults take place at the victim’s own home. Two in ten take place in the home of a friend, neighbor or relative. One in ten take place outside, away from home. And about one in 12 take place in a parking garage.

More than half of all rape/sexual assault incidents were reported by victims to have occurred within one mile of their home or at their home.

    44% are under age 18

In additional response to your question: The public does not believe that men can be victims. Here are the facts:

"About three percent of American men —- a total of 2.78 million men—have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. In 1999, one in every ten rape victims were male".

Its sad how people fail to recognize these facts. Thanks for bring this neglected truth to the table.

Source(s): Statistics in answer are from: Sex Offenses and Offenders. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice, February 1997: They are also from the 2000 National Victims of Crime Survey. The data collected in this survey was compiled by Mary Koss Ph.d who was also my professor in college. BOO-YAH!!!!!!

In current society men arent people.

When men are hurt or wronged women enjoy it. Like when a guy gets hit in the balls.

In 50 years men will become second class citizens if the feminists arent stopped.

it is just simply glossed over when it happens to a man. yes society does tend to think that it can't happen to men, but in reality it does. men are supposed to be our protectors. so some people think it is funny when this happens, but i don't.

You're right — it's never funny. It's only seen that way in these scenes because the women are overpowering the men.

George Carlin, the great comedian and a personal guru of mine, said it is possible. Just imagine Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd. No, really--picture it in your mind. It's funny, right? Of course it is, because they are two hilarious cartoon characters from the Looney Tunes series.

However, real people getting raped isn't funny. That's just sad. And sick. . . .

How can a kick in the balls ever be funny?

The media portrays it the same way as rape: that it's funny.

    It is never funny.

There is just a lot of double standard. Thanks to the American Media.
