Playstation 2 system question?

We have had our system for some time now...first the DVD stopped playing (disk reading error)..now none of the games are "loading" "reading"...anyone have any quick fixes? Or know what the problem could be? Or is the system shot now?

Update:

It's the bigger one..i have no clue how long we have had it..my boys got it for christmas. I am guessing it would be easier just to buy a new one. Don't really want to buy a different system, my boys have over 50++ games.

I had this problem also with one of mine. I took it to our local record/game store that repaired game systems and DVD players. They said my lens had broke loose or something like that but in the long run it was not fixable and they gave me a good deal on a new one. They said the first generation PS2's started to have a lot of problems like that and most had to be replaced. But I'm afraid from my experience it would be better to get it looked at and replaced.

Yeah, get a DVD cleaner for your PS2 (looks like a cd with a tiny brush on it). This will keep it running for a little while longer, but you will probably find yourself using the cleaner more and more often.

There are other ways to fix it but they are complicated and time consuming. They both require taking the PS2 apart. The first method has you wiping the laser with lens cleaner alcohol. The second required tedious trial and error. Inside the CD tray is a white gear looking thing that you click one click at a time until it starts working better. If you decide to do this make sure and get proper directions, since you could break the system rather easily (when you take the cover off initially, there is a cable you need to watch out for). Just search google for PS2 disc read error fix, or something like that.

Your best bet would probably be to try a CD cleaner for the PS2. If that doesn't work, you could try taking it to a video game store or electronics store for repair, but it might be easier to just replace it...

You should probably by a disc/system cleaner. They should sell them at Gamestop.

is it the old big version or the slim one? if its the bigger one it could be time to upgrade, since the thick are old, if it's slim, i would take it to gamestop, EB games, whatever they have around you and see if they can help you
