Please help me to establsih network file and printer sharing....?

I have a desktop pc (wired connection) and a laptop pc (wireless connection) networked by way of a Siemens 4100 Speadstream DSL Modem and a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router. Both PC's are running XP as the operating system. I have designated the printer and select files for sharing, and yet they do not appear in my network places. Can anyone help me to understand what it is i am not doing, or what it is PRECISELY that I need to do...STEP BY STEP...to make this happen?

Are you sure that both pc's have the same workgroup defined? You can verify under your network settings. I think the default is WORKGROUP, but if they don't match you will not be able to share.

Here is the step by step directly from microsoft

in accordance with what sort of router you have, you may or won't be waiting to establish a community for sharing records and/or printers. Sharing records is plenty harder than sharing a printer because of fact maximum routers do no longer enable this communique between desktops. This protection function prevents a working laptop or trojan horse from spreading in the process the community. purely specially equipped routers (no longer instantaneous) can enable desktops to share records with eachother. in case you go with to share a significant printer, you will could make confident that the printer you have is networking properly suited. no longer purely any printer could be shared in a community, that printer has to have a seperate Ethernet connection port for connection to different desktops. the properly-known connection that's used for connecting 2 desktops makes use of two styles of printer properly suited cables; a severe % USB cable, and an Ethernet cable. The USB cable connects the printer to the pc that it extremely is closest to, and the Ethernet cable is going to the different pc. The Ethernet cable plugs into the different pc making use of a broadband router because of fact the relationship component between Ethernet and the different pc. because of this, the router could be closest to the pc that's making use of the Ethernet cable to hook up with the printer. in any different case, the pc which you extremely choose to hook up with the Ethernet cable could have an Ethernet hub that adapts the Ethernet cable socket right into a properly-known modem socket that the pc has.
