  • Backing up Home PC in 2010, RAID, Blue Ray, NAS?

Win 7, 64-bit. What is a realistic way to easily backup 40 - 80 gig of data? Data is pics, dig movies, large programming projects, etc. I had a raid which was ok, but then the onboard controller died. I've gone through 2 mirroring externals and I don't think I'd like to have to burn 10+ DVD's everytime I want to backup. Any suggestions?

  • Is Credit the main reason the world economy is suffering?

I don't understand the issues around credit. First, I often hear that to fix the economy we have to have banks start lending..Isn't that what caused the problem in the first place and would even drive our debt out further?

Second, how does this much credit debt AND potential credit available even exist? It's clear nothing really back the US dollar anymore since they're still printing and we have no true clear asset. So are credit lines just ultimately made up? If you take a major line such as the credit line that Chase or Discover uses to issue credit to their customers, well who supports that credit line? How is it backed or is it basically made up on expectations of earnings?

For example, say that with my home, cars, income, etc my total net worth is $300,000 in 2009. So if I would default on a loan, that is the max they could take from me, except for garnishing paychecks. Now, and even before the meltdown, I couldn't walk into a bank and say I'd like a 1 million dollar line of credit please. But isn't that what basically happens on a larger scale?

Also, does credit tie into why now gas is so much cheaper? I know they say demand dropped, but I don't know if I believe that 100%. Seems like the whole economy started falling down when gas went up, then all of the sudden it crashed. I heard some theory is that investors were asked to pay the full amount of the hedge funds they bought at 10% of the value.

But now you don't nearly hear about "futures" trading as much and gas is low, so how can it even be justified that oil was over $150/barrel and now its back under $50?

  • Why overclock the pc?

I'm curious why people overclock their pc. It seems that an "overclocker" is putting a large amount of money at stake to gain less than 10% performance increase. Push it too hard and you can destroy the entire pc correct?

I'm not saying its good or bad, I just want to understand why its worth the risk.

    Thanks

  • How much speed will I gain with duo/quad processor?

    Hi,

Currently when I convert from DVD to Ipod video, it takes my 1.6 Mobile Centrino Dell d400 Laptop about a little over 2.5 hours when using handbrake. The laptop has a recent harddrive and 1G ram.

My main reason to look to upgrading to a desktop is to try decrease the type it takes to do the DVD conversion process. Anyone have an idea what a Intel Duo 2 or Quad would do? I know it isn't simply as long as the movie is. My D400 is much faster than my wife's HP that is only 2 years old. That has a AMD 64 bit chip.

    Thanks.

  • How much PC Power do I need to convert video?

My old pc is about dead and the guts aren't worth using in a new box. There are so many options, not sure where to start, even can't make the decision on which OS. My last was xp pro.

So my main purpose is I want to convert video from various formats to DVD and/or I-Pod (MP4). Input would be VHS or 8MM Video via this USB adapter I have.

What I need to know is: Which OS (Vista, XP, MAC??, etc), how much of a cpu, ram and if a video card is required to do this. I am not a gamer so I know i don't need the crazy setups.

Also if you're suggesting pc, AMD or Intel? Ram?

OS = 32 or 64 and Vista home, basic, ultimate, etc.

I'd probably build, but if I found a good deal on a dell or imac, i'd buy outright.

    any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

  • Why don't creditors reward Good Customers?

I know all over the news are all kinds of credit woes from bad loans, spending too much, job loss, etc. I understand these issues.

Now, what about the rest of us, middle/average income folks that have been responsible with credit, not over spending, etc? We've been making payments on time, making over payments, etc. How about something for us? Lower rates, allow us to have a month without finance fees?

There are all kinds of help for low income, or recently laid off workers and the rich don't have anything to worry about.

I'm so tired of nobody ever paying attention to us. Yes we can get buy, but it doesn't mean its easy. We'd like some help with college, special mortgage policies or benefits.

By being responsible, we just get to enjoy our loans and credit cards as they are with no "Hey, thanks for being able to pay your bills" or "thank you for not adding to the falling economy by being responsible and not defaulting on your loan".

All I am saying is that for the millions of people that have been lucky enough to keep a job, not get sucked into a bad loan and been responsible with credit, we should have some type of aknowledgement.

Maybe if we call for a lower APR, instead of being "oh sorry our computer does all the rate adjustments, you actually do something manually".

  • Where is the Tulsa 1957 Plymouth now?

Where did the Tulsa 1957 Plymouth end up? I know it was in poor condition, and the winner of the car was 92 years old.

I can't imagine they'd just scrap it, anyone know what happened to it?

  • Age of Credit lines in FICO score? Is there a MAX?

I have a few credit cards. The oldest one is about 10 years old but charges me an annual fee. The next two cards are about 8 years old. I know that 15% of the credit score comes from the length of time you have had a credit line open. So is there a max? Say cards 8 years or older all have the same value? Or if I cancel the 10 year old card, will my score suffer a 15% decrease simply because it is the oldest?

    Thank you!

  • If Jesus Christ returned, how would you know? Would you ask for proof as the Romans did?

Honestly. What would it take for you to believe that Jesus Christ has returned to Earth? If he appeared as just an average, everyday man would you believe him? Would he have to do something extrodinary for you to believe such as turn water to wine or make the seas blood red? Are we sure he hasn't attempted a few times in the past and just gone unbelieved or un-noticed? I wonder that if or when Jesus came back to the earth, he attempted to simply teach his father's word. The "christians" of any faith, probably rejected him or even threatened him to call himself the true son of God. If this is true, what is chritianity really based on? Fear from the church? Social acceptance?

  • Need Help Finding a specific version of "we three kings"?

The past couple of Christmas Seasons, I heard a great version of "we three kings". It is a duet with a man and woman, acoustic and the tempo is a bit faster than the traditional version. There are some soft drums in the back round. The singers harmonize often in the song. It almost has a folk/country feeling to it. But there is not any horns, violins, bells or anything else. I hear it on the radio and even recently over a mall's music. The closest I found was a version by The Roches (a sister trio). But I actually was able to contact them and they never did a version along with a male voice.

Please help, its been bugging me for years now!! Also, it is probably more contemporary, so it isn't an old classic or anything.

    Thank you, Merry Christmas.

  • Blue Cross Insurance Question - Out of pocket Transfer??

My wife and I were covered by CBC via COBRA. She was the primary and I was the dependent. I had my deductable and my $1,500 Out of Pocket expense satisfied for 2007. My wife then dropped her coverage which CBC then issued me a new Card and Number because they cannot have a dependent by itself. I was told that my "already satisfied" deductable and out of pocket amounts would transfer to my new number. My deductible did, but now they expect me to pay my out of pocket expences AGAIN for 2007. They said it is CBC's policy to not transfer satified out of pocket. Now if I dropped and my wife stayed, there would be no issue. but because she did and I couldn't remain as an independent, I have to pay again. Note, nothing else changed, the plan and group are the same. One rep even said that if there was a note on the account about it, they would of transferred it. We even asked the benefit manager who asked the insurance broker, even they never heard of this. Any Help here?

  • manhunt for ps2 - how to do violent or grusome kill?

I'm playing manhunt. I'm at a level where it says I must do one violent and one gruesome kill. I cannot figure out how to do that. I thought one was when you sneak up and the cursors turn white and you hit X and the other is when they know you're there and you fight them directly.

I saw something about when you are holding l1 the cursors turn yellow and red, but you do that by holding in X. when i try that he swings and I get killed.

  • Anyone have experience with Nokian WR tires? Are they as good as they say?

I have a 2003 Subaru Legacy AWD Sedan. I wanted to get the best all season tire. the Nokian WR is the only tire that has Severe Weather rating and is good for all seasons. They are from Finland. I believe the Canadian Government uses them on their cars.

Because the Subaru is AWD, I want to get the best for it since my wife will be driving it and in bad weather.

I want to know if anyone has used them and what they thought. For me, they're about $150 each. 205/55 R 16 H speed rated.

  • What are some good PS2/PS3 Horror type games?

I've played "the suffering" 1 & 2, currently doing resistance. But what are some other good horror survival type games. This is for an adult so any rating is fine. I've heard some say about Silent Hill, but other's say its slow paced.

I really like the type that can toggle between first and third person. The more gore, the better.

  • What do YOU think about President Bush waving I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby sentence for CIA info leak?

President Bush spared former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby from a 2 1/2-year prison term in the CIA leak investigation Monday, delivering a political thunderbolt in the highly charged criminal case. Bush said the sentence was just too harsh.

What kind of message does this send to the people? Has our basic government structure deteriorated to low that basically anything goes?
