planned vs unplanned?
I was just wondering if there were any moms on here who have had both types of pregnancy. Did it feel any different to get that positive when you were trying to conceive vs. when it was unplanned, or is it still surprising? Were you more excited when it was planned, or were you just as nervous and doubtful? I'm just wondering because the baby I'm expecting was a surprise (I was on the pill and taking it properly!), and I was wondering if my emotions would differ during a pregnancy I actually TRIED for, vs. one that caught me off-gaurd. I know everyone is different, I just want to hear personal experiences.

My first was planned and I was just thrilled and as excited as could be.
My second one was unplanned but I still jumped up and down and was full of excitement.
My third was unplanned and I was actually very shocked because I had just started a new job that required me to do heavy lifting and riding in a helicopter and I couldn't continue to do it. It took me some time to start getting excited, although I never once had an negative thought about it.
I think that you could have a different range of emotions for a variety of reasons...your financial state, your maritial status, the size of your house, car, etc etc.
Personally I kind of thought the thrill of having an unplanned pregnancy was different from the one I had with my planned pregnancy. Not more intense, but one was more of a victory and one was more of a rollercoaster.
Congrats on your pregnancy. Cute avatar...love the baby cheeks.

My pregnancy was unplanned. I have PCOS and did not even think it was possible to get pregnant!
As for being nervous, I go through every emotion possible. I cry over the little clothes hanging in the wardrobe, get all excited about holding my baby and then it swings the other way.
I am 21 weeks now and have days where I feel totally trapped by the pregnancy. I would never have a termination and feel that I am having to go through with something I never expected to happen. I have doubts about how I will look after a baby, how we will manage financially and a whole raft of other emotions. I then beat myself up for feeling this way.
Then one look at the scan photo and I am back head over heels in love with my little one again.
I have no idea if what I am feeling is due to the baby being unplanned or if it is the unknown and hormones at work.

I have had a planned and an unplanned pregnancy. My first was unplanned - I was only 17 and so wasn't ready but little boy is 5 years old now and I wouldn't turn back time because he is wonderful. I wasn't frightened at all though - I think thats because I was young and naive and thought that it would all be easy. I am now pregnant with my second - I am married and settled down and it is a perfect time to have a baby - and I am terrified!!! But it does feel wierd because everyone is so happy for us now and before when I was pregnant with my son everyone was worried and concerned for me.
I guess its different for everyone and whenever you are pregnant there are always bound to be doubts and panic about the baby, whether it is planned or not.

My first was unplanned. I laughed one minute & cried the next. Just didn't know what to think. It was all so new. 2nd was planned. was extatic. Shouted it from the rooftops. I miscarried that time. 3rd,4th, 5th & 6th were each progressively more shocking. During the 5 full term pregnacies I loved every minute! So...more excited at the news when planned probably, but the unplanned pregnacies were super too. And of course 5 super kids are the result.
