Grant Marshall and Today's Devils signings?

NEWARK, N.J. (CP) - The New Jersey Devils were busy putting pen to paper Tuesday, re-signing forwards Cam Janssen and Grant Marshall and defenceman Olivier Magnan while also signing free-agent defencemen Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre and Ian Moran plus forward Noah Clarke.

What do you think of these signings, and why is it that Grant Marshall, who always played well for the Devils, is in the minor leagues?

Good depth signings. Most of these guys will spend a good portion of the season in the AHL.

I think it was to just add some people on the roster for future changes. I think lou is getting ready to make some final signings and see what kind of shape they are in for a potential trade. By signing these players he's added depth and can see people in positions that might be vacated by a trade that makes another position stronger. I loved Grant Marshall and hope he comes back to play, I wouldnt be surprised if he does. I'm not sure why he was in the minors, but hopefully something has changed and we will see him soon. Jansenn was a great sign because he can pump everyone up with hits and is one of the few who does it cleanly. the other guess will add depth to an always deep team, and also set us up to make us stronger...

Whatever it is, I am sure it's probably good for those players. I've seen so many players who are mediocre play with the Devils for a number of years, then move on to other teams where they turned out to be really good. Bill Guerin is a perfect example. Perhaps the other teams in the NHL should appreciate the work the Devils put into training their players.

Wasn't Marshall the guy who got hit from behind in junior and broke his neck?

As to the signings, they mean something only to the Devils and their fans. Most of these guys will never get more than a cup of coffee with the big club.
