In California What is the average pay for a Licensed Smog Technician?
I recently aquired my license and have about 2 years experience in the field. I can properly perform a smog test. Yet diagnostic skills still require training I check everything taking more time than other techs but i get it done right.

Depends on several things.
If your diagnostic skills are weak yet, you can't expect much more than about $15.00 per hour. And that is at a Test and Repair shop. At a Test Only shop, it could be quite a bit less, particularly in SoCal, where there are many illegals running machines (legally and Illegally).
If you have good driveability and diagnostic skills, there are some shops paying as much as $30.00+ per hour plus benefits, or paying flat-rate at that equivalent.
The UP side of the Tech License is job-security. With that license, a job is always available somewhere. It may not pay all that well, but you can find work SOMEWHERE.

You are looking at about 15 to 18 an hour. That is of course depending if you speak english and spanish and how your reading and writing skills are.
