i'm getting sent seeds frm germany to australia. will they get here?

The package is just an envelope and it doesn't declare that there is any plant matter in there. It is packed so that it can be opened/closed by customs without problems.

Will they make it here and will they need to be quarantined or what?

The package will get to Australia, but it likely won't get to the destination address.

EVERY package coming into Australia is scanned and they WILL find the seeds and WILL be opened and inspected.

Australia has good reasons to protect its environment and we don't like foreign organism coming in as it will (and has in the past) cause a LOT of damage and environmental and agricultural disasters.

If you are lucky - they may identify the seeds as an OK species and will expose it to Gamma ray and then send it off to the destination address - but... more than likely - it will be destroyed.

Edit: Whoa there, banditoauu. Lighten up.

The asker is NOT trying to conceal anything nor there is any intent of anything illegal here. Customs will look at it but let them determine what action they will take. Don't jump the gun and end up having to pull your foot out of your mouth later on.

You are still new on Y!A. I think a little more experience and get the know the etiquette of talking to other users would be good.

I really hope that you don't get them. If you do, it will only be because customs has failed to do its job.

The fact that customs can open the package really doesn't help, since there is no way for them to tell what's in it. They have no way to tell if the seeds you are importing are completely innocent, disease-free tomato seeds, or if they are seeds that will launch the next major weed invasion across the country. If you had declared the plant matter properly, then customs would be able to make a decision that might go in your favour, but without any information they have to protect Australia and quarantine or destroy the risky material.

  • HOW BLOODY DARE YOU !!!!!!!!!!

aren't you aware just how lucky we are here .. because of our distance from other countries .. we are free of many diseases...

BUT fools like you seem to want an end to that status quo ... do you really want to bring something in that might carry a disease that COULD be a risk to our native flora .. .

AND if you don't think THAT'S bad enough ... HOW ABOUT you take into consideration that much of our native flora is food for our very unique native Fauna ..

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL if you brought something in that wiped out the Eucalypts that the Koalas eat ???

YOU would be responsible for their extinction too ....

THINK BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING SO IRRESPONSIBLY STUPID AGAIN

    FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: sorry Mouse BUT I disagree completely with you... ettiquette is ONE thing .. the risk of doing something that may ruin habitats is another and a FAR FAR more impotant issue than good manners...

you can shrug poor ettiquette off .. CAN you shrug off a disease that has wiped out a species of native plant DUE to some person NOT thinking about the consequences .. I mean really .. HAVING TO ASK PEOPLE ON YAHOO ANSWERS ??? how about a little common bloody sense.

They will be confiscated by Customs, you are not allowed to bring seeds into the country, infact I'll be forwarding your Yahoo info onto S.A Customs so they can make sure to track you, what you are doing is an offense in Australia and you will be prosecuted! Have a nice day.

it is totally ILLEGAL to bring in seeds, you will not see them as customs will seize them

Australia doesn't have allot of diseases that other countries have that is why you CANT bring seeds in

you should value australia more and do not do this again

possibly not, they won't get through customs and quarantine. here is the Australian Quarintine and Inspection Service website that will tell you all about what can and can't be brought into the country. http://www.www.aqis.gov.au/
