Lip piercing info please?
A friend of mine wants to pierce his lip.I do too,but my parents said I have to wait til I'm 18.I'd still like to know though...Does it hurt? How long would it take to heal? He has many piercings, and is allergic to certain metals,so he's very careful, but how can an infection occur if its not the jewelery? There is no concern for a job for him at the moment, but because I would like it done to me later on,how bad is the scar when you leave it to close up? Does this process take a long time or does it hurt? I've heard people say you won't get a good job if I do.How about not wearing it on to work? Would that work? I'm just wondering.
He's having his done this month.I'm gettin mine done in about 2 years, haha =D
Please don't tell me if its a bad or good idea,I'd appreciate answers to my questions much more...Thank you!!

It hurts like f*ck. I have tattoos and a nipple piercing that didn't hurt this much. I got it done about six years ago and it looked great.I don't wear it now though, it's been about two years since I took it out. The hole is still there but barely noticeable although mine was only a small, thin stud anyway. I have a good job, I'm a teacher. The swelling goes down within a week or so but the main pain is when eating, you forget that it's there and bite the thing AARGH!! After about a month it's ok though. Just do it, f*ck the parents what can they do when the damage is done? Rip it out?? I got my nipple done when I was 16 and told them and they weren't happy but had to live with it. Good luck!!

No a lip piercing isn't really painful. It was just a small pinch and a little sore/swollen for a few days afterwards. Don't worry about the pain. It's nothing, really. Aftercare: For the outside of the lip: Wash the area with anti-bacterial soap. Then mix 1/4 teaspoon non-iodized sea salt with 8 oz. of distilled water and soak your lip in that. For the inside of the lip: Brush your teeth and then rinse the mouth with alcohol-free mouthwash. Then you can do a sea salt soak with the inside of your mouth if you want but it will probably taste horrible. Clean your lip three times a day, or after every year. You should clean it for 2-4 months. After you get it pierced, you can take some ibuprofen and suck on ice if the soreness is bothering you. Don't play with the piercing. Make sure the jewelry is made out of surgical stainless steel or titanium. 24k gold is good too. Wait at least 6 weeks before changing the jewelry. The piercing takes about 2-4 months to heal. White stuff on the inside of the lip, redness, swelling, tenderness, clear or white pus, and a littl blood at first is normal.

Ok: I just got mine pierced a couple of days ago for my 18th birthday. It's on the right side of my bottom lip.
1) My ear lobes are pierced (I don't remember the pain), and I have 2 cartlidge piercings in each ear... and my lip has hurt a hell of a lot less than my ears! PLUS it's healing a LOT faster.
2) I don't know how long it takes to heal yet, the piercer told me to wait 7-14 days before I did much with it except clean it, but that she actually recommended a month before I changed to a lip ring instead of a bar.
(They will put in an extra-long bar so that it doesn't move much so that it will heal quicker and so that if it swells, it will not be uncomfortable.)
3) An infection can occur because of bacteria, or not cleaning the piercing and having food in the hole, or the parlor using dirty needles or tools.
4) My sister had hers done and took it out and I can't see a scar... I already had a scar on my lip from stitches, so if I take mine out, it will only look like an extra stitch.
With my ear piercings, I just take them out for interviews for jobs, scholarships, school, what what-not. and I had things I couldn't wear them for, and I just put in clear plastic retainers.
Oh. It's been about 52 hours since I got my piercing, and it's only a little bit sensitive, but nothing like what I expected. Eating was a little difficult at first, but I just have to chew carefully.
AND your piercing shouldn't bleed when they get it done if you go to a good place. Make SURE to call ahead and make sure that they check for veins before they pierce your lip at that parlor, otherwise, you can get a big problem.
AND one of my friends had hers done at a place that wasn't very good, and her lip ring destroyed the tooth that it would always hit.
Be careful, and goodluck.

Ok gonna try and answer your questions in order...firstly yes it does hurt a little more around the lip area but not as much as say the nipple or upper ear, an infection can occur if the piercing equipment is not sterilised so make sure the palour is clean and that the peiercer uses a new needle opened in front of you also follow cleaning instructions which is generally to clean twice a day in warm salty water, theres not much of a scar really its there but barely noticable, a lip piercing closes up very quickly (about an hour or two I think) so its no good taking it out for work coz you wont get it back in again, although many people use a retainer which is plastic and not as noticable

The middle of my lip is pierced so, I know how it feels.
If you've ever gotten your ears pierced, it feels the same exact way. The pain isn't noticable until the next day, but even then, you're not in pain. Your lip is just irratated. Redness will occur the next day. You'll probably receive a fat lip, but that's not noticable either unless someone is within 2 inches of you.
It takes one day for the redness to go away, irratation and a fat lip will go away within one week.
An infection can occur when the person who has pierced your lip, has pierced a nerve. If that happens, you must remove the piercing permanently and that will cause bruising and some minor pain.
The process takes no more than 5 seconds.
If you decide to take your piercing out on your own just because you want to, the scar is hardly noticable.
Just make sure you go to a professional and when they sit you down, make sure you see them get a new needle out of a package.

I got mine done when I was 17, Im almost 20 now and I can leave it out for about 3-4 weeks at a time. Mine didnt hurt at all when I got it done, I also have a decent tolerance to pain haha.
The scar isnt bad. But it is noticeable when I leave it out. I leave mine out for jobs all the time. I've have really good jobs too =]
A lot of places wont let you wear it to work though. You can't leave it out for very long until you've had it pierced for about 6-8 months though, you can put retainers in it though. They are what you would use for a labret piercing, and they work well.
Good luck

Lip piercings hurt a lot and your lips get swollen and can bleed. I know people who have gotten scars and have lost feeling in the area pierced. It only takes 2-3 months to heal fully.
It is possible you could get HIV if the piercing equipment isn't sterilized properly. You can also get infection from bacteria getting into the puncture of the piercing.
It shouldn't leave a scar when you leave it out for a while. But, if it's infected when you take it out infectious wastes get trapped as the hole closes.
