This is in answer to SageandScholar's criticisms. Thank you for actually explaining what you find wrong with him, instead of the usual "ron paul 1% meh kook" stuff. Military supports him over any other candidate, and more supporters are coming up all the time. What will happen when he gets to 5%, or 10% 15% Rep. support or higher? What happens when 75% of independants support him? Or when 10 to 15% of the democrats do?

    Anyway,

1: "I disagree with deporting children who were born here and have never known another home just because the status of thier parents is questionable"

Does this mean that all ambassadors, dignitaries, foreign tourists, kids are all American citizens? No. He wants to clarify the 14th amendment to state that a parent has to be a legal citizen/resident under US jurisdiction, in order to have a child here that will be considered a citizen. I think he is introducing such a bill, or already has. More info at this link.

2: "I disagree with removing the flexibility in our monetary system that has prevented repeats of the Great Depression and Stagflation"

The Federal Reserve is probably what you are talking about, but you have perverted the cause and effect. The same Federal Reserve caused the Great Depression when its wise men made a series of cumulative mistakes that contracted the money supply by one-third and wiped out purchasing power in an unprecedented fashion. The same group of people worked to get our dollars to be based on NOTHING.

3: "I disagree with the idea that an isolationist America ignoring and/or undermining multilateral attempts to address the world's problems is in our best interests."

Ron Paul loves free trade, and has stated such on numerous occasions. Again the perversion of facts clouds your premise. The "coalition of the willing" is almost solely UNILATERAL. Us Americans bear almost all the brunt financially, and in the cost of lives of our brave soldiers... if you can even put a cost on a life. How many terrorists were in Iraq when we started? How many are their now? How do you aim at a pinpoint problem when all you have is a shotgun? Every pellet that goes astray, and harms an innocent in Iraq or elsewhere, has the potential to have that person's brothers, sisters, or entire family/friends turn into crazy terrorists. It's not that hard to use logic, and it's not that hard to read page 7 of the NIE (National Intelligence Estimate) and agree with it.

4: "I disagree with the idea that cutting taxes to the rich is more important than offering every American an acceptable standard of living."

How about no federal income tax (for people, not corporations)? When you figure out what your federal income tax pays for, you will be angry, but since you are a sage and scholar, you should know it pays INTEREST on money BORROWED. I think it was in the Grace Commission report to Reagan, that said 2/3rds of it was wasted, and 1/3rd went solely to interest on debt. Why don't you read it, and correct me if I'm wrong.

    http://www.uhuh.com/taxstuff/gracecom.htm

5: "I disagree with blaming the most unfortunate and disenfranchised in our society for thier own misfortune."

I think I agree with you here, and I do not know Ron Paul's stance on this since the statement is vague. Unless you are talking about illegal aliens, then I have a serious issue with you.

6: "But mostly I disagree with wasting my vote on someone who can only command 1% support within his own party."

It's early, polls can be fudged, support is growing EXPONENTIALLY, and on top of that, Ron crosses paltry party lines, and takes over the hearts of concerned CITIZENS of America. Be they independent, democrat, republican, libertarian, whatever. At least you stated he has a low percentage of his own party, and didn't try to trick the reader into thinking he ONLY has 1% of the populace behind him.

These polls supposedly ask if you are Republican, and even then, you are lucky if his name is mentioned. If it is mentioned, is it in the same tone/question that a top tier is mentioned at? I wouldn't know, because I have yet to meet anyone that has gotten a call from such a poll.

Thank you again for letting me clear some of that up for you.

EDIT: Becksbear, I gave you the thumbs up because you seem honest in your criticisms. I will defend your right to say them, even if you aren't a Ron Paul supporter. If you find someone better, please tell us. I also admire Mike Gravel, and would vote for him if I had to, even though I don't agree with about 30% of his stances, because I feel he is a straight shooter.

Source(s): EDIT2 9am 07/26/07: 1a: Military support in terms of donations over other candidates is easily verified, as even Fox news carried it, but focused more on Obama being third in support. Find a site you like/trust after typing in "military supports ron paul" into google to see, or do the hard work and double check FEC listed contributors for Q2 if you think it's an error. 1b: Naturalization. First of all, I don't think he wants to retroactively apply the law, he wants to take the incentive for "anchor babies" away, which would discourage illegals from anywhere thinking it's another way to stay. Do the paperwork, get into our country legally, stop companies from hiring them, and get rid of as many incentives as you can for people that are technically foreign invaders, no matter what their intentions. Have them apply for for asylum if conditions are truly bad in their country. I'm the son of a LEGAL immigrant, I was born here, and I do not have a problem with this. I'm also not "white", and absolutely not racist. Have a look at my link, it explains the situation and intent of the original people that ratified the 14th amendment. If you chose not to, you only hear the glossed over, simple version of the amendment by the media. You also didn't answer anything to my examples of tourists/dignitaries kids either. 2a: Our currency is devaluing OFF the gold or silver standard, and booms AND recessions can be helped by the FED already. A dollar was supposed to be a certificate, payable to the bearer in gold (lawful money) until the 1934, or the 1960's (however you want to look at it). What exactly is a dollar worth now? It's technically a piece of paper, and they can print as many as they need (and then charge interest on borrowing money created out of almost nothing). Why can't congress print as needed, and take out the middleman interest? Why can't the dollar be actually worth something? Both questions shouldn't be questions I have to ask, if the Constitution says "Congress has the power to create money", and "The mint can only produce coins using silver and gold and perhaps other metals (copper for pennies)". I know I simplified the wording, but look it up. Look at my links please. Here is a new one as well, interesting to look at for historical purposes. http://www.the-privateer.com/paper.html 3b: The UN? Why should we be part of an ineffectual world body... it was a great idea to get nation heads to talk to each other, and work things out, but now it's like a government on top of our government, one we did not elect, one that has more and more power, and possibly military might over sovereign nations such as ours. It has it's place, but it's overstepping it's functions, and does not represent the people. WHO, IPCC? Those are other parts of the UN. Again, they have their places, but avian flu, global warming? Cmon, are we supposed to fight all these real or imaginary threats, by killing vital food supplies in countries found with birds that might contain some sort of "flu" strain. Making up vaccines for a virus that morphs quickly. Or by taxing you, instead of taxing corporations for their pollution. Do we honestly need another tax? THAT is going to force us, to force companies to make efficient, or hybrid/electric cars? Who came up with this idea, and why are the consumers supposed to suffer for it? Geneva Convention? I thought we don't follow that in all situations already, and it's Mitt Romney that wants to "double guantanamo" and possibly all the CIA secret or not so secret prisons across the world. You sound very much like a globalist, and you opine for the UN over your own country. That's your right, but to me, that's dangerous. 4b: The debt being paid off? If you are 9 trillion dollars in debt, but only 660 billion actually exists... HOW are you going to pay it off? Please read the Grace Commission report I linked to. Understand that we as a people own less and less, and live off indebtedness for more and more of our lives. When we die, we have nothing to show for it, and the banks usually hold the titles our houses, or land, and around 40% of our working wages. That's slavery. Read more about how debt is created, and encouraged. Then get back to me. Tax the corporations more if needed, tax us on stuff we buy, not stuff we earn. Have a welfare system to help the truly needy, and even if Ron doesn't support that, you have congress and the senate on your side. He can't do all the things he talks about, it's a step in the right direction however. He doesn't promise what he can't try and deliver, like most of the others seem to do. Give the working people back 30% or more of their income, and I guarantee a change in wealth and buying power, which will make most of us better off. 5b: The newsletters you speak of, WERE written by someone else. Have you seen his writing? His speeches? Do they sound anything like what you might have decided to read? Did you know he apologized for someone working under him, or that these words were also taken out of context? That they were dug up and spun by people working against him? He supports individual liberty for all of us, and never specifies race. He hates collectivism. I think the grass is greener on his side, and snowballs running down a mountain full of snow, tend to get bigger. I don't have to agree 100% with Ron, to see that he, and perhaps a few others are worthy candidates, and I hope you can admit this as well, while keeping your candidate on top of your list, for now. EDIT3 1am 07/27/07 I did not knowingly misquote you, and I did not patronize you (other than the "sage and scholar" jibe, but meant it in jest). You have your beliefs, I have mine, and I tried my best to provide sources backing my point of view. I have enabled email on YA as of today, as this is not technically a message board. Thanks! (I am going to bed though now) PS: Thanks beesting and others! http://www.ronpaul08.com/

I lost every hope about a transition back to before 2008, it's been so much legislative change is only 3 years, and a total nationalization of the US economy. But no matter what happen I'm proud to know a real patriot like Ron Paul, and I'm proud of the americans that support him no matter how different their opinions are on certain issues or agree or disagree. RON PAUL = ONLY HONEST PERSON IN GOVERMENT

  • 1 decade ago

Ron Paul is the only candidate I've ever wanted to just get up and hand out flyers for. Ron Paul isn't a gimmick, Ron Paul is what he is and that is the person for real change to restore the foundation of America and not abuse his power to rewrite the constitution or take swipes at it by claiming it's just a piece of paper.

It's the president's sworn in duty to protect our freedoms and constituional rights. Think of it like a job. If you had a contract with your employer and you told your employer that the contract has no real purpose or value and because it's just a piece of paper that means you can go against it, would your employer kick you to the curb?

We need a president that can be bothered to read bills before they are passed. While other candidates are making up excuses for their lack of taking time to reading bills, Ron Paul has the credentials to back him up and that speaks louder than words.

I encourage all to spread the word to those who rely on mainstream media for information. You can do this yourself by printing out information and supplying it or you can simply give the number to the campaign out. If only one person is being blacklisted in the media, you know that candidate stands for something for we the people and not we the corporations.

It's time to let honesty prevail. If you too are tired of seeing crooks, liars, inexperienced fantasy sellers always winning the race well now is your chance to help in rising above it and letting it be known that we've had enough!

ANY intelligent rational thinker could not disagree with Ron Paul! I see Ron Paul not as Republican, Democrat, Independent or Libertarian. I see Ron Paul as hope for this country. As the last hope for our sovereignty. He is the true patriot! A true American. Unscripted and sincere.

When I see that people disagree with Ron Paul I have to ask, what can you possibly disagree with him about?

    RON PAUL 2008!

Wow this is why America is going down the drain, I wish people actually checked out Ron Paul before they made judgements about him - - let me give you what he stands for backed by a consistent voting recording

-the constitution of the United States of America !!!!!!!!!!

-freedom (not wire tapping our phones and invading our privacies)

    -Lower taxes

-Abolishing money wasting government organizations and replacing them with more efficient free market ones (i.e. allowing UPS and Fed Ex to deliver 1st class male not just the USPS)

-He is anti-abortion considering he was an OB/GYN doctor for 20 years this makes sense, anyone that looks at that many ultrasounds of babies would have to agree with anti-abortionists

-Backing up our dollar with actual gold, so we can compete with the Euro

-If you want to find out more about him go to his myspace page and and him as your friend

    * * * * I wish that Americans could see how courageous this man is, please watch the Republican YOUtube debate on CNN, and then come back and tell me he's not the best choice * * ** * * *

P.S. I am a free thinker who wants whats best for my country, not like becksbear

He's the representative of my district. I didn't vote for him, but his offices helped some friends of mine get their passports in a pinch, so I can't hate him completely.
