Can anyone reccommend a car seat that has good head/neck support for a newborn?
We have a Graco Snugride car seat and I am not happy with the way my daughter's head always flops to one side. We even have one of those head support inserts, but that doesn't even work to hold her head up.
I need to make a 3 hr. trip in the car this weekend and was wondering if anyone knows of a car seat that would hold her head in place?

We had the snugride and I found that the head support was not needed. It actually made it worse. Try just taking it out. Our son was comfy without it and we travel frequently to visit family about 2 hours away. I now have to figure out the same problem with his big boy car seat.
Also check you angle. If it's not lined up EXACTLY the way they tell you, that will also cause his head to "flop" around. I know we had the darnedest time trying to get that seat in straight because my seats are angled in the OPPOSITE direction that the car seat wants them to be. We had to cram that thing down just to get the angle right.

Did it come with the inserts for a newborn? If not and you are using one you purchased separately, that could be part of the problem, having one made by Graco specifically for the model of seat you have would work best. If it still doesn't, my guess is that the seat isn't reclined enough, or the seat doesn't fit properly in your vehicle. The easiest (and safest) way to remedy this is to call your local police station and ask tell them you need help installing your car seat. They will likely have a CPST (child passenger safety technician) on staff or know where to find one and you can make an appointment with them to have them install your car seat properly and check that your newborn fits well in it. Remember that car seats are NOT universal - not every car seat fits every vehicle, and not every car seat fits every child. If the tech can't get a good 45 degree angle of recline, you may have to get a different seat. If so, head to babies r us (or another baby superstore that's going to have a large selection and will let you try the seats out in your car and with your child, Wlmart is NOT the best place for this!) and try some out until you find one that installs reclined well in your vehicle and fits your child well. Moving to a convertible car seat that can be used for newborns as well as older toddlers might work, too. They often come with more padding for infants depending upon the model. A great one is the brand new Evenflo Triumph Advanced (NOT the same as the original Triumph series, make sur eit says advanced). The plush version at Babies R Us has lots of comfy newborn support to it, and as a bonus, it can be used up to 35lbs rear facing, 50lbs forward facing, and its easier to install a convertible car seat to a good recline angle (using pool noodles or rolled up towels as needed) than it is to adjust the angle on carrier bases.

Your right newborns don't fit right in a carseat. I had a head support but, went to Wal-Mart and got one that could be sized as your baby grows. It is blue with a white smaller one fit inside. It buttons in around the straps but. fits a babies head really well. There is no movement and the baby sleeps wonderfully. Also I have the Evenflo car seat and it has an adjustable button that can sit the carseat back. It is on the base of our carseat see if yours has one.

When my son was discharged from the NICU they told us to not bother with the insert things, to use a rolled up recieving blanket on each side of him, and one rolled very tightly, and placed around his head, so that he would be nice and snug, and his head wouldn't flop around. I still keep one in the car for when he falls asleep, and he's almost 17 months.

We just bought an Evenflo Embrace carseat and it comes with a built in head support. It works pretty well.

Receiving blankets would work fine but also you could try the head support heres the link...http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId...
I have this carseat for my daughter (well i am getting it tomrorow)...http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId...
I wouldnt use the head supports in them because they arent very supportive so i would recommend the first link i have or just some receiving blankets.
