I say dust then vaccum, my hubby says vaccum then dust - Who is right? (hopefully I am)
Also , I have a child with MAJOR allergies, if that helps anyone with the answer

When cleaning, start from top & finish at floor. Anything falls, it will still get cleaned up.
If your vacuum 'kicks' up dust as one person stated, you have a crummy vacuum.

I always dust and then vaccum. The reason being is that more dust will fall on the floor or the dust bunnies that you collect when using a furniture polish will fall on the floor and then you vaccum them up.
Your husbands point is that the vaccum stirs up the dust from the air intake and then redistibutes it about the furniture again. I have tried it this way, but found that I was still having to vaccum up the dust bits that were dropped while dusting.
Having tried both ways, I preferr the dust then vaccum. Especially when doing major cleaning, there is less dust around. If you have a glass table, use a swifter after you have vaccumed to collect the little bits of dust after vaccuming.

I often wonder about it myself - if you dust first then some dust from the vacuuming will end up on the furniture; if you vacuum first then you might drop some dust on the floor. I try to dust several times a week and vacuum weekly and I do start by dusting, when there is time to do both...

Normally dust first then hoover . But if you have little magic duster´s like mine, called Spontex . Then you can hoover first,as these little dusters pick all the dust as you go along dusting. and they also stop the dust from settling back again. So I have less dusting too do. Dust 1 day and not for the next 3 days . Great they are.

You are.
The wife is always right.

& this is coming from a male.
My reasoning is that the dust will fall on the floor, then be vaccumed up.
Although I can see his point of view if your vaccum is no good. Bad seals blow dust all over the place.

being someone with allegiers i would say vaccum first only if you do not vaccum, everyother day with you should... you should also use a baggless vac.. these seem to hold the dust in more...
if you vaccum often then dust first.... and when you dust use something wet... this tends to catch more dust.. then just spreading it around...

I use to dust first then vacuum, but then I noticed that after I finished vacuuming there was more dust on the wooden and glass surfaces. If you vacuum first, then dust you don't redistribute the dust. You get what is left over after you finish the vacuuming.

I've never had a vacuum that didn't stir up a little dust, so I vacuum first then dust with a slightly damp rag to pick up the dust.......sorry

I hate for you to be wrong, but you should vacuum first because the vacuum cleaner kicks up some dust. If you dust first, you'll wind up having to dust again. I do agree that whoever is cleaning can do it their way. But any cleaning guru will tell you to vacuum first.

I've heard you should vacuum first because the vacuum throws dust back into the air , but I usually vacuum first.
