Today's betta question...?

It's time to change the water in my betta's tank. He has a really nice bubble nest going. It's gonna ruin it when I change the water. Does destroying his bubble nest cause him any stress or will it be ok? I will change the water anyway, I was just wondering if it messes with the fish to have his bubble nest destroyed.

Update:

ok- first of all- it's MUCH better for him if I change his water and second, it's gonna take more than a cup to change it. I don't keep my bettas in little tiny bowls. I like them, therefore I don't treat them cruely.

Won't bother him in the least, he will just start a new one.

Don't worry, it won't cause him any stress at all. He will happily build another one in no time.

If you really, really don't want to ruin the bubblenest (this happens to me sometimes, because it's just so nice and I want him to continue it) just do a partial water change. Get a jug and bail water out of the tank until you see the bubblenest starting to disintegrate. As long as water isn't poured out of the tank, the nest should be fine. Then carefully pour water gently back into the tank, trying for minimal disturbance to the water surface. (Your fish should be scooped out before you start - all that tossing around from the bailing and pouring might stress him out.)

I dont know exactly, but it seems like he would get really mad since he worked so hard on that bubble nest... I used to change my bettas water when he had a bubble nest and i wondered if it made him mad

  • Its better not to change the water, because when you destroy betta's bubble nest it gives him stress. But if your tank is VERY dirty, then you might want to change it and let the betta make a new nest.

Why do you have to destroy it? Just do a partial water change. Take a cup, scoop out about half the water, gently replace it with more.
