Field corn is edible. It is tough and not sweet. Animals eat it, and they are now using it to mae ethanol for cars. Sweet corn is a different species, it is tenderer.and has better flavor, From the road , field corn is taller. Sometimes the green leaves stay pointed skyward longer than sweet corn leaves that tend to curve downward sooner.

No, don't try it. It is very hard on your digestive system if you actually can get it down! LOL! Our field corn is as hard as teeth! There is a big difference between Field corn and Sweet corn. Farmers here laugh at the city-ites that sneak corn out of their fields... just wait till they try to eat it! LOL! Apparently the field corn I'm talking of and the field corn everyone else here is talking about are two different things.... no way, no how are you going to soften up this field/seed corn for human consumption.

Feed corn is another word for field corn. Sweet corn in the edible variety. Sweet corn is a smaller plant, looks thinner, has a noticeably reduced number of tassels.
But, we humans do eat field corn. It ends up in a lot of our food products. Cereals and corn meal are made with field corn. About the only use for sweet corn is direct human consumption, many times on the ear. Although some of it is used as silage.

Feild corn is used to make grain for animals. Cows, horses, etc. Sweet Corn is what people eat. From driving down the road it is hard to tell which it is. The farmer knows though. He gets more for sweet corn.
