British policeman ranks?

Hi. This is for research for a novel I'm working on, when most of my novel takes place in Great Britiain and the UK. I'm wondering what do you call British officers, inspectors, detectives, etc. Do you call British officers Constables? And do the M.P.S have a police photographer and sketch artists too? Any help would be great.

All police officers are "constables" in law, irrespective of rank.

See the following links for additional detailed information:

    Best of luck.

Based also on other novels and tv shows I've seen, they call them inspectors and chief inspectors. Uniformed ones are called Bobbies. You should follow the other fellas link and then use my advice anyway. So that makes two of us Gullivers, er, gullible.
