90% of Questions Could Be Answered By This...? Agree?
Google it. Or, to keep our sponsor happy, Google or Yahoo it.
IMHO 90% of all questions asked could be answered by the asker, if they'd take as much time to research the question before posting - as they do in composing and uploading the question in the first place. Agree or disagree?
And if you agree (very existential, here) what the hell are we all doing here? Looking for attention? Killing time? Trying to gain points with no purpose nor value? Feeding our egos? OR... social networking under the guise of something more meaningful than Facebook or MySpace?
Dig Deep.

What really irritates me are the kids asking for the answers to math problems, especially when they just want the answers.
I think that what you are saying is absolutely right. I admit, I ask questions on here that I probably could find if I Googled it. However, sometimes I ask questions that require a person's opinion. I think those are much better questions to ask on here, for the most part. The ones I would exclude are the ones where people ask medical questions, and baby names, and things like that. If you have a medical issue, ASK A FREAKIN DOCTOR. We're just average people. How much do you really think we know about the human body? The baby names are stupid as well, since most of the time they are asking what people think of these retarded names. The worst one I have ever seen was "Decklyn". What kind of parents are you if you name your kid that? That's almost as bad as African-American names.
As to your second question, I think your last reason makes the most sense. Most people are very social. Facebook and MySpace (especially) are full of ads and all this other crap that gets in the way of that social networking. People can more accurately communicate here, even though those peopel are complete strangers. However, that's not to say that's why EVERYONE is here. I know some people that get on here to rip on everyone and answer questions with more questions or answer their questions with mockery. I don't blame them. Sometimes I read questions on here and it blows my mind. I read on the other day that said "I just had my period, and I took a pregnancy test that came out negative, but could I still be pregnant?" The state of intelligence in our society just boggles me. I actually met a teenager (she was supposedly 19) yesterday who had no idea who Ernest Hemingway was. ERNEST HEMINGWAY. One of the great American authors, and she had no idea who he was. It frustrates me so much that someone as talented and as influential as Hemingway is unknown to some of the kids today. I hope society has not really fallen that low.
Your question reminds me that there ARE intelligent people out here on this site, and that not everyone is an idiot. Thanks for the refreshing question and I hope you have an amazing start to the month.

Obviously, you're at that place we all get to, and you'll see where you're a little bit behind and feel a little more dumb than some and a bit further down the road as others.
The ego-sure it's part of it. Not always, though. Sometimes we're actually quite humble, if you think of how many lost lambs are helped by us.
All of us are sometimes lambs and sometimes owls, but once you've made it to about where you stand, you'll try for yahoo answers search (a very clearly marked option on the home page)and you'll find that this little search spot only needs a word or two and out spit 20 or 100 different past questions and for every one of those you'll get about an average of 3-4 answers and most likely 2 of those will give you what you need. The more that we all ask the same questions, the more things will pop up on a search. There's a relationship, I'm sure, from the # of repeat Q's asked to the # of people who are catching-on to 'search'...and IMHO there is a way to look at both sides in a positive light. Yahoo Answers and its database of Q's asked is just like a growing, maturing entity(like society)and eventually the points WILL count for something. Answers will have to give 'honorable mentions' to us who are often clicked-on, when we show-up on a search.

haha i just reached level 2 and I was all happy..my boyfriend asked whats the significance?..and i laughed because i had no clue... lol.. I think its a way of not feeling lonely.. easily everyone could google/yahoo it..but after a while and dead ends it gets tired and boring.. here its about people and interacting... there are people who love sharing their knowledge and want to be heard or want to feel like they've made a difference in someones lives... i love it because i can ask for help or ask any question imaginable and someone will have the answer...
its not easy to reach out to people and ask a question.. personal or not.. this is an outlet for many to seek help, on any subject. I think its amazing. plus it is alot easier to ask a question here because so many people have the knowledge we seek. I would have had no clue where to start searching for some of the questions I've asked, but this helped.

of course, you're at that place all of us get to, and additionally you will see the place you're slightly at the back of and experience slightly greater dumb than some and slightly further down the line as others. The ego-confident this is portion of it. no longer constantly, however. each and every now and then we are fairly fairly humble, in case you think of of what number misplaced lambs are helped by using us. all human beings are each and every now and then lambs and each now and then owls, yet as quickly as you have made it to approximately the place you stand, you will try for yahoo solutions seek (an pretty of course marked decision on the living house web page)and additionally you will discover that this little seek spot in straight forward terms desires a be conscious or 2 and out spit 20 or one hundred diverse previous questions and for each a sort of you will get approximately an common of three-4 solutions and likely 2 of those supply you what you want. The greater that all of us ask an analogous questions, the greater issues will pop up on a seek. there's a dating, i'm confident, from the # of repeat Q's asked to the # of human beings who're catching-directly to 'seek'...and IMHO there is the thank you to look at the two aspects in a favorable easy. Yahoo solutions and its database of Q's asked is particularly like a starting to be, maturing entity(like society)and finally the factors WILL count huge sort for some thing. solutions will could desire to grant 'honorable mentions' to us who're many times clicked-on, as quickly as we teach-up on a seek.

I agree, about 80% of what you say. True most questions can be answered by a few simple clicks, but I try to ask, and answer things that require other people's opinions, not just facts. Facts, and things set in stone are easy to find, but trying to discover what other people think about your situation, experience, oinion, etc. is what the site was made for. Not for kids who are too damned lazy to look up song lyrics on sites that are created for just that purpose.

No, I disagree. I would say that 75% to 80% can be googled. There are some questions that involve personal experience and some questions that you cannot find in Google or elswhere.
But yes, a large portion of the questions are useless, or redundant, or just irrelevant.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Yes that is true and 100% of questions could be aswered with "I'm not sure".
I see Yahoo! Answers as more of an online blog, and an avenue to aquire different opinons, in which case, google or Yahoo search engines are inaqequate.

I think most people ask questions on here to get more of a personal view answer vs. an explanation of the answer.
Other than that I just don't know.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
i agree.
i usually skip those question that could be answered by google.
what im doing here: well it is a good way to kill time especially if your bored. also i like stating my opinion. thats mainly why because i can state my opinion and sometimes the person you answered really liked it; they choose you as best answer and you feel happy that you could help them out or that they liked your opinion.

I agree with you, but judging from, the age group that is dominating Y/A at the point in time, s/b parent or teachers, the problem is they, in general are not available. The computer has taken their place.
So if you look at our participation in that light, maybe, just maybe we are of benefit, if we are sincere with our answers.
