What is a legal and highly effective way to get apartment neighbors to turn their music down?

I've tried filing complaints with our management office, the police, asking them nicely...to no avail. These guys feel entitled to loud, bass-driven music and have even posted the complaints sent to them on the community bulletin board in an act of rebellion.

I had this with my neighbors and tried everything you did-to no avail. I finally went on line and looked up the county ordinances regarding loud, unusual noise. There is a segment of the code that clearly forbids any noise that is a daily thing. Your neighbors can be fined $100. the first time-$200. the second and if they want to go any further-the fines keep going up. I complained once and the noise has stopped. My neighbor gives me dirty looks, but I'm not fond of him either.

If you've gone as far as filing complaints with management AND calling the police, perhaps it's best to move.

The jerks with the loud music know that their music bothers you. They also know that neither the manager NOR the police could do anything. They feel that they have the upper hand.

Polite people would have turn their music down a long time ago.

One last attempt: tell the manager that you've tried everything to no avail. They must do something, or you will use your rent money on doctor visits. You're stressed and not getting enough sleep.

Beat them at their own game.

I know it sounds immature, but it is usually an effective way to deter inconsiderate people from their annoying behavior.

I had neighbors like you are describing.

I also had a 3,000 watt sound system.

Whatever they were listening to, I would put on music of a completely opposite genre. Opera and orchestral music works the best. Put your speakers next to their wall. Put in some good noise-reducing ear plugs. Sit outside with your remote and let it crank. And, smile the whole time.

When they find that they can't enjoy their noise over yours, they usually give up.

About that time, they will probably wish to negotiate a deal to get you to turn it down.

Tell them you like loud music and if they want to hear theirs, then they should invest in stronger amps and speakers.

At least this worked for me - I like loud music.

But, I generally choose to moderate my volume level.

Of course, I have an even more annoying idea. Get a guitar and amp. Sit outside their apartment and "try to play along" with their music. Mess it up really bad. At ay time they turn it off - request that they keep it going so that you can "practice" with it.

if the management and police aren't do anything about it, then they aren't doing their JOBS! Call someone higher up in the police force, let them know the street officers aren't doing their jobs and bypass the manager of the apartment, call the OWNERS office and ask why the manager isn't doing his job either.

If any of your other neighbors are bothered by it, I'd start a petition. Then management will know just how serious you are.

None that I know of. Was thinking of this. What about using a universal remote control (if you have a balcony) and try using this whilst aiming it at his place. V.v.v. long shot.
