In the Navy, for someone with glasses...?

I'm considering joining the navy instead of the army. I was wondering (since I wear eye glasses) what do you do with your glasses when you are swimming?

I know this sounds trivial, but I've been wondering about this all day lol

Take them off or leave them on, whatever is comfortable for you. You get a headband with your standard issued glasses.

What do you normally do with them when you swim? I was in the Navy for 20yrs and other than boot camp the only time I went swimming was when I was at the beach or the gym when I was off. Unless you volunteer for a special program pretty much the only time that you will have to swim is in basic training.

Actually most of these answers are at least half wrong or not done anymore. When you go to boot your original glasses will be shipped home along with your civilian gear in a box. They do not give you a strap for your BC (Birth Control) glasses anymore at least they didn't give me one. Try to put your glasses securely in yoru swim roll because you will need them for live fire. If yoru vision is too bad to be able to swim without them you will be disqualified when you dep in.

i am in the navy right now in delayed entry. if your vision is bad like mine you will most likely get a k scan at an eye specailist. when you arrive at RTC you will be issued BCG as this was always mentioned. one of my eyes is better than the other so most likely i will have to get surgery later on in my career.

If you are too blind to see the side of the pool without your glasses, you're considered unfit and you'll fail basic. Talk to your recruiter, he will know the max allowable vision deficiencies.

You can get LASIK or PRK or wear contacts.
