What is the best audio format?

In your opinion, what is the best audio format and why, e.g. in terms of sound quality, size, etc.

Also, can you suggest any good audio converter software?

    Sony's ATRAC3 delivers excellent quality and a great size.

    Generally used by the Sony Minidisc, this Codec can be obtained for regualar computer use.

    Minidisc is HUGE in Japan but hasn't quite caught on in the US -- shame really, it's truely a better format than most.

    My opinion would be MP3 because its good quality and it can be played on just about everything!

    Ogg vorbis, It is the smallest.
