How can one merge several digital images into one?

I have compiled images from each month of my son's first year (he will be 1 in a couple of weeks!!), and I was able to paste each image into a word file, so as to be able to print them all togther on one 4x6 piece of photo paper. I would like to convert that word file (those images pasted together in it) into a .jpg. Can anyone out there help me on this? IS this something that can be done with standard software on computers, or with a free downloadable program/software?

Adobe Photoshop is a good tool, but a bit pricey. That's a very creative idea. I can relate as my daughter will also be turning 1 soon. Congrats!

Word probably isn't your best bet. You shoudl use an actual photo editing program. It would even be done on paint if you really wanted to. WIth any program, bacically make a new, blank canvas to the size you want (most programs let you choose in actaul size of cm or in insteal of px) and import/drag in/cut and paste the images into it and align them to how you want them to be. Taking resizing into consideration as well. Here's a like to some fo the top free image editers online. http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pixelbasedwin/tp/...

Even getting a high priced program just as a downloaded demo that would only be around for so many days would work just for a quick project.

I use GIMP. It's better than affordable, it's free. It's good for resizing images and customizing like you want. It's like adobe photoshop, but it does have less features and is less complicated in my opinion.
