What kind of law-related jobs are available for students who have completed just 1 year of law school?

I know that most (if not all) summer associate positions are for students after 2 years of law school, but what kind of jobs are out there for students after their first year?

Don't listen to the guy about not finding a job. It may have been his personality.

I just read this in an article yesterday on LAW.COM.

"There may not be enough lawyers to feed the hiring appetite. According to our survey of summer associate hires, Am Law 200 firms expect to bring on roughly 10,000 associates next fall. That astonishing number equals about one-quarter of all the students who will graduate from U.S. law schools next year. To put it another way, the top 20 law schools will only produce about 6,500 graduates. "

I will put the link below -- I don't know if you need a subscription or not, but it doesn't hurt to get their feeds (or technolawyer.com information either.)

As to the jobs -- check for a paralegal position, or perhaps a runner or billing clerk.

You can get jobs with law firms after the first year of law school. These may not be the high-salary associate positions you hear about, but there are jobs that will pay well and give you experience in a law firm. Most law schools will help students get placed after that first year. The jobs are more of a law clerk or legal research type. As a law clerk you will be sent into the court house to file documents, pick up documents or check scheduling.

I agree with mj69catz. I got a summer associate position at a large firm after my first year of law school. I just graduated this May and accepted an offer for a job that starts in the next couple of weeks. I accepted the position in December....so there are plenty of jobs available. I don't know why Stephen T said what he said unless he did poorly in law school.

The only requirements to become a pharmacist is about 8 years full time student. 4 years pre-med, 4 years pharmacology. These guys are not dummy's by any means. They don't just sit there and throw pills at people.

I am an attorney. You will be lucky to find a law related job after your third year. Too many attorneys. I knew people working as waiters and tie salepersons after graduation and I went to a top twenty school. Much better to be a doctor or a dentist. It is still not too late for you.

paralegal and law assistant. If you get in with a non-profit organization they will probably give you more responsibilities and leadership roles than other sectors of law.

offices usually take paralegal-type people to do their research, if they don't have official paralegals... actually i'm starting my 3rd year of undergraduate work and have one of those jobs right now :-)
