Aren't christians sinning if they take prescription pills...?

The reason why christians don't smoke or take illegal drugs is because the bible says that their body is a temple but yet poisoning from prescription drugs has risen to become the second-largest cause of unintentional deaths in the United States, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So is XANAX, PROZAC, OXYCONTIN and etc. acceptable for the temple but medical marijuana isn't?

Hpfetus, that was hard-hitting, I liked it. He he.

1st point - What is the background of "pharma"?

    Webster's Dictionary defines pharmaceutical as:

    - From the Greek word Pharmakeia, to practice WITCHCRAFT, use medicine, a POISON.

    - Of or by drugs: as, pharmaceutical cure.

Now, what does the bible say about witchcraft?

    Galatians 5:19-21

"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, WITCHCRAFT, HATRED, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, MURDERS, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

('Hatred' and 'murders' were capitalized because we're all familiar with religion and those.)

2nd Point - What does the bible say about christians and sickness?

    Mark 16:17-18

"And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the SICK, and they will RECOVER.”

    James 5:13-16

"Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you SICK? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is SICK, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be HEALED. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."

If its all about faith, then why don't christians just believe that their god can heal them, instead of taking drugs which the bible establishes as witchcraft?

And by the way, I have nothing personal against or for witchcraft, my mother's side of the family is Gitano, so Palmistry, fortune-telling and esoteric practices were common in my family.

There's nothing in the Bible that prohibits a Christian from going to a doctor for treatment of an illness. Luke, the writer of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, was a physician. The drugs you mention are certainly over-prescribed and dangerous. If we could synthesize THC, instead of causing people to do something presently illegal, then people could benefit from marijuana without having to break the law to do so. If people would only take prescription medications as directed, the death rate from these drugs would surely drop.

Addiction to anything is a sin in my opinion because normally the person addicted has put the addiction before God. In essence they have created an idol. Getting drunk or high is also a sin because the Bible says so.

I gather from your question that you think Christians are against medical marijuana but not prescription drugs. I am against medical marijuana for 2 reasons. First, the user gets high from smoking it. Second there are prescription medications that have the same effect that don't make the user high. Again, I believe anyone abusing any kind of drug is sinning.

The good news is that Jesus still paid the price for our sins no matter what they are. Even if we are addicted to something, Jesus will forgive our sins if we only ask.

Over time practice has changed somewhat......it has evolved....originally....

    for example:

Paul and Silas where being followed by what literally translates to Pharmacist ( not thought to be a soothsayer but original works call her a φαρμακείο). I modern day counterpart would be herb/head shop owner chick that proclaims she is a witch.....the original work read nothing like it is translated. The use of such herbal remedies was forbidden in Jewish law.

Healing was first done only by the holy men of their day. Then after Jesus, anyone could heal in his name...so forth and so on...then some only through prayer and fasting.....but then again..this was also when all sickness was a demonic infestation......according to the CDC....most of these deaths related to prescription drugs are from misuse.

Medical Marijuana has its limitations, changing its method of consumption would help..

I see some people have chimed in that it was written by Luke the physician...no one really believes that anymore that can back it up......if so then why did he refer to ...READ THIS page..and don't stop there

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_the_Apostles

[the author refers to having eyewitness testimony "handed down to us" and to having undertaken a "careful investigation", ]

The theory that Luke was a doctor in the modern sense is just silly. Christ was also referred to as a "Physician"...and there is nothing suggest he had any sort of medical training..

4th Century has been considered the birth of medicine as we know it...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocrates

""This intellectual school revolutionized medicine in ancient Greece, establishing it as a discipline distinct from other fields that it had traditionally been associated with (notably theurgy and philosophy), thus making medicine a profession"

    No, of course not!

Prescription drugs are meant to help. Cigarettes and illegal drugs only harm. The only way I could see that a Christian would consider it a sin is if someone abused their prescription because that is no better than taking illegal drugs.

yes-and that is a big pile of **** that these drugs are legal and marijauna, for watever use, is still illegal-most people dont know that these legal drugs (alcohol and tobacco too) are by far more harmful than marijuana, but they believe the opposite because the government lies about it

God can work through medicine and doctors. what "christians" have YOU been talking to? i really doubt God would call taking prescription drugs poisoning the temple.

and that verse was taken out of context.

    1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

God is talking about not fornicating, not bashing presciption drugs.

God made doctors for a reason, to help people that are sick. Medicine is just medicine and used for a good cause then it is not abusing the real purpose of taking it.

Too many "Christians" are still hung up on the legalisms of the Old Testament. Those who are really need to work on that!
