How do you repell rats from your yard?

I took my dog out to yard to do his business early this morning and he "found" a rat and started to chase it! Is there anything I can use to keep them out of my yard other than poison? And if not, what is the best way to use poison?

good old fashion rat traps lots of them. at my old house we had a rat problem and we just used rat traps and and after a few weeks, they will all be gone, whatever you do do not use poison what can happen is they eat the poison and then they go into your walls and die and you've got a huge stinky problem that last like a year!

Eliminate their food source. Then they'll go somewhere else.

Figure out what they are feeding on that is so attractive and get rid of it, or make it inaccessible.

    Also use traps.

Also let your dog control and harass them.

Don't use poison, because if your dog eats a poisoned rat the dog will be poisoned as well.

...Owls are great rat removers and so are Black Snakes but that may be a bit of a "leap" for you... get some "big" glue traps... a blob of peanut butter in the center and then place them out of the way of the dog... the next morning...watch the stuck rat squirm..... enjoy...
