About how much to get paid for Admin assistant for a CPA firm?
I am going to an interview today for an administrative assistant position at a CPA firm. It was advertised as administrative assistant and almost seems kind of receptionistist like. But I wanted to know about what they might pay. It is located in Southern California and since i just moved back here im not sure what it is here. I was making 16/hour in texas. I want to at LEAST match that. Any admin's in Southern california know what the pay should be?

I looked at Salary.com for administrative assistant I in San Diago (zip code 92119)
The 25th percentile was 31,762/year ($15.88/hr based on a 2000 hour year)
The 75th percentile was $40,390/year ($20.20/hr)
So I'd expect that your pay should be somewhere in that range.

I don't have a clue! Now, that being said. $16 in Texas will go farther than $16 in California ($20?) might break you even. You need to have enough income to support yourself in the new place. Figure your bills and expenses a month, divide that by 4 weeks and that is what you HAVE to have. Don't be shy about asking what the job pays, if they turn the question on you, tell them $3 or $4 dollars more than you expect ($24 an hour). " I would expect $24 an hour, but I don't know if that fits the range you are offering, what did you have in mind? If they low-ball you and you are afraid to pass it up, take the job and immediately start a search for a better paying one. Now you have a job (so you look better to the person hiring, and you can name a higher price $26 hr, and negotiate. The short time at the new job won't hurt your chances at the new one (as long as you don't get fired, before the you get the new job). Good Luck, and have fun!

I'm in HR but not at a law firm. My employer does credit check, background check, driving record check, and drug testing on all low level clerical staff like receptionists and admins. They have the lowest pay and because of this are the highest risk for causing problems for the company.

Southern Cal. is far more expensive than Texas. Far far more!!! Take a look at salary surveys before you go. That'll give you an idea.

you should ask for more than minimum wage, but if you are in dire need of cash you may have to settle for minimum wage for now until you find something that pays more.
